Simple First Touch or Turning Drill (15 mins)

Key Factors

  • Player on the red cone passes the ball into the player in the yellow square
  • Player in the square takes one touch out (sequential order on the diagram), and plays it back to the cone.
  • On 3 they dribble to the blue cone and turn back and pass it back to their teammate
  • On number 4, player in the yellow square dribbles to the cone and the player on the cone goes to the middle
  • Should take a positive touch and get out of the square as quickly as possible

Organisation

  • 2 players per group is optimum, but 3 can be used with space and equipment restraints.
  • Red cone placed 4-5 yards away
  • Yellow square 2x2

Simple First Touch Drill - Progression to Skill (15 mins)

Key Factors

  • A defender is introduced, initially just shadowing and putting pressure on
  • Progressing to being competitive - The defender must start from outside of the box
  • If the player comes out of  4 they get 1 point,1 or 2 they get 2 points, 3 they get 3 points

Organisation

  • When shadowing rotate after 1, 2, 3, 4 - Attacker becomes defender, defender passes in, passer becomes attacker.
  • When competitive have 5 attempts each to score as many points as possible.

Key Factors

  • The ball must be kept on the floor at all times
  • The ball must be passed through all zones (if playing from the keeper)
  • If the ball is won in the middle zone or attacking zone they do not need to go backwards

Organisation

  • 6v6 (neutrals can be used for an attacking overload if there is not enough progress
  • Playing the ball on the floor through the zones should cause repition of the types of touches we were working on earlier.
  • If too much dribbling then limit touches
