6v3 Rondo (20 mins)

Set Up: 25*25 grid. Supply of balls along the outside. Two target goals on the outside. Two set ups.

Players: 9 players - Split into two teams (adust as needed). 6 red vs. 3 blue.

Description: 6v3 possession game. Players set up in their "positions". Focus is to play out the back against a high press. We have the 1,2,3,4,5,and 6. Objective for red is to maintain possession. Blue look to score in the mini goals. If blue disposses a red, they drop their pinnie and the red player who made the mistake picks it up and defends. 5 passes = 1 point. A complete switch = 3 points. Initially start with a 3v2 in the middle favouring blue.

Key Factors:

First touch away from pressure. Proper body shape.

Patience on the ball - proper speed of play. Off the ball movement.

Keep shape and proper dispersal. Look to switch the play. Angle and distance of support.

Split defenders. Passing options - through, around or over.

Proper technique in passing - lock the ankle, follow through. Proper weight/pace of the pass.

How do we create overloads?

Progression:

Restrict outside players to two-touch.

Restrict inside players to one or two touches.

SSG: Playing out the back (15 mins)

Set Up: Half field at North Park. One large goal with a supply of balls behind it. Two mini goals near the touchlines at center. 5-yard zones for the team in possession surrounding the play area. Wide channels go to the touch line.

Players: 13 - 7+GK vs. 5. 2 CBs play in the deep zone in possession; 2 FBs play in the outside channels; 1 HM plays inside the central area and 1 AM in the highest zone. One CF in the center circle. The opposition five can play in any zone but will primarily occupy the central zone.

Description: Play starts with the GK looking to play out the back and pass to one of their CBs. Blue attempt to maintain possession from within their zones. The opposition (red) look to win the ball and attack the main goal. For the blue team, points can be scored by:

1. Scoring on the mini goals = 2 pts OR connecting a pass to the CF = 1 pt.

2. Connecting 7 consecutive passes = 1 pt.

On losing possession, the blue team can leave their zones to regain possession of the ball. They are once again restricted to their zones upon regaining possession.

Progression: can initially start with one HM in the central area and quickly progress to having two.

Drop the zonal restrictions and open up to a regular phase of play with mini goals for the attacking team.

Key Factors:

Body orientation - see the field, see the options.

Distance and angles of support.

Speed of play - take advantage of numerical superiority.

Be safe in our defensive third!
