Rondo's (15 mins)

Organisation

  • 2 pitches split into 2x 12x12 yard squares.
  • 13 players (3v3 in one pitch, 3v3+1 neutral player in the other pitch who will play on the team in possession)
  • 1 ball per pitch

Practice aims
  • Create space to receive the pass
  • Create use of the overload

Session plan

  • Play will start with a 3v1 rondo inside the square.  If the 3 complete 6 passes without the defender touching it, their teammate can come in to create a 3v2.
  • When possession is won back, they must switch it over to the other square where now they will create a 3v1 against the other team
  • We will be working in 5x3 minute blocks with teams switching around after each block

Coaching points
  • Players must be on their toes to receive the pass
  • As the area size is small, movement to create space is crucial
  • 1 or 2 touch if possible to keep the ball moving quickly

Point scoring:

- 10 completed passes = a point

Organisation

  • 2 goals added for each pitch
  • 1 ball per pitch
  • 3v3 in one pitch
  • 3v3+1 in the other pitch

Session plan

  • Transitioning from the rondo's into the SSG by adding goals to score in
  • Teams must complete a minimum of six passes before attempting a shot at goal, unless a shot can be taken straight after winning possession

Session aims

- Create space to receive a pass and to create goal scoring opportunities

- Players on pitch 2 to utilise the neutral player to create an overload and create space

Time

5x3 minute blocks
