Shark Tank

Dribbling/ Running with the Ball

Organization:

Players spread out inside the 3v3 Field

Give each child a ball.

Procedure:

Explain to the players that they are all fish and the volunteer coaches are sharks. (Facilitator can also join in a be a shark). The players dribble their ball around the field while the "shark" attempts to tap the players soccer ball away. If they do so the player does a movement such as five toe taps and re-enters the game.

Progression: Parents can be sharks; Select one child to be the "shark"

Emphasis: Dribbling, heads up, shielding, being positive, and FUN!

Additional Notes: Good time to remind players that they must always try and kick the ball and not each others legs. Encourage the volunteer coaches to be sharks as well!

Candy Store (10 mins)

Dribbling

Organization:

Players spread out inside a 3v3 field.

Procedure:

All players dribble within the candy store. The players explore the candy store by shouting out their favourite candies. The facilitator will ask players their favourite candies and name each side of the candy store. As the players dribble around the candy store the facilitator will call out a candy and the players have to run to that side of the candy store and perform a specific challenge i.e. Toe Taps, Bells.

Emphasis: FUN, Listening, Dribbling, Changing Direction, Balance, Agility, Coordination, Imagination

Catch a Tail (10 mins)

Physical Literacy

Organization:

Players spread out inside the 3v3 Field

Procedure:

First have all the childrens parents surround the grid.

Bring the children in and have them choose an animal to be that has a tail.

Tell the children the pinnie will act as their "tail."

Tuck the "tail" into the back of their shorts.

Have the children run around the grid and have the facilitators attempt to pull out their "tails."

Progression: Volunteer coaches can be "it"; Parents can be "it";One player can be selected to be "it; All players can be "it"

Emphasis: Heads ups, keep running, have FUN!

Additional Notes: Be creative with the children. Encourage them by being loud and spirited! Ask your volunteer coaches to help the children out be giving them coaching tips such as running away from the facilitator and moving their hips.

Relay Races

Physical Literacy

Organization:

Set children up along the edge of a 20 X 16 yard grid.

Procedure:

Tell players they are going to participate in a race. Be creative, have them do things such as running, crawling, hopping, etc., through a set of cones. To help, have the volunteer coaches and some parents stand at the beginning of each line to instruct players when it is their turn. MAXIMUM three players in each line up.

Progression: Use a ball

Emphasis: Running, heads up, and FUN!

Additional Notes: Adding parents to the beginning of each line can encourage players as well as monitor who goes when to avoid chaos.

Golden Egg

Physical Literacy

Organization:

Players are placed in pairs and are placed in a corner of the rectangle as above.

Procedure:

When the facilitator calls go one player (bird) from each team runs to the middle and picks up a ball (egg) with their hands. They run back to their area and place the egg in their nest. They then give their team mate a high 5 and then they go to collect an egg. Once all eggs have gone from the centre all players can then go and collect eggs from other nests. When the coach calls freeze, the birds with the most eggs win the game.

Progression: There is now a golden egg in the middle and the birds that end up with that egg score 5 additional points.

Progression 2: Players now use their feet and dribble the eggs back to their nests.

Additonal Notes: Have a parent/volunteer coach stand in each grid to assist the players. It will help facilitate which players go where and when.
