Technical Warm-up

ORGANIZATION:

1. 20x15 area.

2. Groups of four players.

OBJECTIVES:

Option 1

1. Player B checks at an angle.

2. Player A passes to player B who opens up to receive on back foot.

3. Player B passes to player C who has also moved to create a triangle.

4. Player C plays a give and go with player B before dribbling to the starting line.

5. Rotation: player A becomes B, B becomes C, C goes to back of line, resting player becomes A.

Option 2

1. Add negative pass to play forward beforew final give and go.

2. Everything else is the same.

KEY COACHING POINTS:

Weight and accuracy of pass.

Quality and direction of first touch.

Movement to create angles.

Receive on back foot when possible.

Connect three lines of attack (triangle).

Communication - eye contact.

Small-sided Activity

ORGANIZATION:

1. Two-thirds of the field.

2. White/red team attacking big goal.

3. Blue/yellow team attacking countergoals.

4. Server shown in green.

5. Poles on outside represent offside line.

OBJECTIVES:

6+1 vs. 7

Attacking team: server, middle three (6, 8, and 10), and front three (7, 9, and 11).

Defending team: GK (1), back four (2, 3, 4, and 5), and middle two (6 and 8).

Enforce offside line; ensure back line pushes up. Play restarts from server if ball goes out of play.

KEY COACHING POINTS:

Mobility to create angles of support.

Mobility to unbalance defenders.

Third man/blind-side runs.

Penetratring passes.

Speed of play.

OBJECTIVES:

8v9 (9v9 if necessary/possible)

Attacking team: add the 2 and 3 to previous set-up. Add servewr in as 4 if numbers allow it and/or activity is too challenging.

Defending team: add the 7 and 11 to previous set-up.

KEY COACHING POINTS:

Same as previous.

Movement to create overloads.

Recognition of overloads.

Recognition of space (in front or behind defenders).

Use of combinations, negative balls, etc. to penetrate.
