Exercise 2;
Handling techniques with general movement; Works for 3 or 4 keepers, can manage 6.
Four cones about 10 yds square. All GKs working with one ball and throwing and catching between them whilst moving around the square.
Server calls out a number and that keeper must move into the goal for a shot on goal from Server
Observations:
Consistency and detail of GKs throwing and catching in the grid;
Speed of GK to travel to goal and then decelerate
Progressions:
1. Start with side foot low shot;
2. change up to volley / half volley to bring in diving mechanisms.
3. See next exercise.
GK A plays a one-two pass to GK B. GK B then recieves a one-two pass from GK C. they then face server S for a handling opp. Done 3 times as follows:
Rep 1 - side foot on ground for scoop save
Rep 2 - off ground to chest for gather (or throw if not accurate)
Rep 3 - to head height to take ball in front.
Coaching points:
Body shape to play first time and co-ordinate with each other;
GKs hand position ready for server - set position, hand in neutral;
R1 - Scoop - fingers together, swivel feet and drop knee to take on ground'
R2 - Gather - body behind ball ;
R3 - High save- Hand in 'W', thumbs close; elbows in and take ball in front

Prgression from exercise 2;
With 2 goals and split into two groups (either 2 or 3) GKs.
Movement, throwing and catching as per previous exercise.
When coach calls out a number, the same numbered keeper from both groups has to move to save a shot from the server in their own goal. Server shoots at a keeper first and if a rebound then tries to score in other goal. If first save is smothered (caught) then shoot from spare balls.
Set up competition on who lets in the least goals.
