1v1 Defending with Technical Warm-up.
1) Have defenders start opposite side of goal and they have to defend the shot by rounding their runs, closing down quickly and forcing them wide. Important to close down but not dive in.
* Have other grid exactly the same but mirroring so players work on defending different angles.
Coaching points: Close down quickly, low stance and and round your run. What happens if you run straight at attacker? (goal is wide open)
*Teach what goal side means!
Defenders need to be tenacious

2v2 Flying Changes: 30x20 Yards
Organization: 2 teams of equal players. 2v2 to goal. Ball goes in the goal or out of bounds on the defending side and 2 new players dribble into the game. Play to 10.
Progression: 2v2+1. Two touch game.
Coaching Points: Speed of Play. Facilitate them to make decisions as to when to go and how quickly to go. At first will need to remind them but eventually you want them to be dribbling in without you telling them. Dribble into grid with pace and purpose. Empower them to go on their own. Not commanding them.

Roles of Each Player in 7v7 in Build-up Phase: 1-2-3-1
7v7 grid size: 28 x 45 yards
9v9 Grid Size: 45 x 70 yards.
Coaching points: *****LET THEM PLAY!!!! DONT STOP IT EVERY TWO SECONDS AND DONT OVER COACH. LET THEM PLAY AND MAKE ONE OR TWO FREEZES. COACH IN THE FLOW AND IN NATURAL STOPPAGES!!!!!!
#1: Role of the Goal Keeper: keepers should learn how to support the back line in possession, how to distribute and be the first line of attack instead of just punt the ball long. Keepers need to learn to pass the ball on goal kicks rather than just kick it long.
#4&5: Role of the Center Backs: The back line plays a vital role in possession. The defenders need to learn how to support the midfield in possession, how to make the field big and how to help relieve pressure. The defense also plays a crucial role in switching the point of attack.
#6 Role of the Defensive Midfield: the number 6 player dictates the rhythm of possession. He needs to learn how to support the attack from behind the ball.
#2&3 Role of the Wide Players: Players 2 & 3 provide width and penetration. They need to learn to stay wide and open body to the field and provide support to the midfielders.
#9 Role of the Center Forward: Player 9 provides depth and an outlet from high pressing opponents. She needs to learn to stretch the field and stay high and central and be available for the long pass option from the back.
