20x30 grid

8+gates

Groups of 2, one ball per group

Instructions:

Players must pass the ball through the gate using different parts of the foot to receive the ball

(inside, outside)

Each gate is one point

Coaching Points:

Correct passing technique

Correct Receiving technique

Progressions/Regressions:

Pass ball to back foot, first touch has to break the line through the gate

15x20 yard box. 4 rows of 5x5 boxes, 3 boxes in a row. all the balls at midfield with coach

Instructions:

Red has to pass the ball across to red. Blue has to pass the ball across to blue. When playing defense, one player has to step up to a cone, the other two have to drop and cover, cutting off passing lanes. When a team has the ball, they have to be patient, and pass the ball back and forth until a hole opens up to pass the ball to the next row.

Coaching Points:

Only one player steps up

If in the middle box, you can only go to the two cones behind you, never step up

Organization:

25x40 field. Blue cones set about 10 yards up from defending goal. 8 players set up in whatever formation you choose, 4 attacker set up as LW, ST, RW, CM

Instructions:

Coach plays a ball into the red team, blue has to press together as a team and try to win ball back. Red scores on opposite end, blue can score on red if they steal the ball.

Coaching Points:

Press team into the middle

Wing forwards collapse middle

Center striker sit back a little

Don't step in, let them make a bad pass to turnover the ball

OFFENSE:

Play away from pressure

try to score as quick as possible

Progressions:

Make it a competition

If blue scores a goal, two points

If blue forces red to kick ball out of bounds, one point

If red scores, its one point

15x30 field. Goal on each end. 3 players on each team to play 3v3

Instructions:

Break them into teams of 3 and let them play.

Keep them in triangle shapes, no keepers.

Rules are as follows:

No corners

Everything is a goal kick or a kick in (no throw-ins)

PLAY 2-Touch to encourage ball movement and player movement

If movement is satisfactory, move to no restrictions

Coaching Points:

Focus on shape of team. On offense players should be spread out and stretching field open. Defense we pinch in

Progressions:

2 touch

Give each player a partner on the other team, you can only defend your partner now.
