High School Varsity Soccer Practice. This session is meant to help with possession in the midfield area. Players will learn to hold on to the ball and connect passes. It will help players understand when to dribble or pass. Various progressions can be utilized with this drill, but this one will focus on the goal.

Full Session - High School Varsity Practice
- 1-2 touches max
- Gameplay tempo
- Clear communication
- Have players connect with the central player
- Allowed to cross balls if they have the opportunity
Point System to Create Goal Mindset:
- Connect 10 passes equals a point for attackers
- Steal the ball or cause attackers to lose possession equals points for defenders
Rotation:
- After 5 mins rotate defenders to give others the opportunity to defend.

Full Session - High School Varsity Practice
5v2
- Team with the ball will try to connect 10 consecutive passes.
- Players will utilize the space within the grid.
- Players must learn to keep formation and communicate with each other.
- Minimize dribbling with the ball and focus more on combining by passing.
- The opposing team will send any two players in the opposite grid to win the ball back.
- Players must defend to pressure the player with the ball.
- Players must learn to time when to step towards the ball.
- Once they win the ball they must pass over to their grid and connect passes within their grid.
The team who lost the ball will then send two of their players to get the ball back.
Coaching Points:
- Communication
- widening the space
- Looking up before receiving the ball to know where to pass.
- Encourage players to drive into open space or dribble if there is no pressure on them
- Communicate with defenders and guide them on pressuring.

Full Session - High School Varsity Practice
5v2 into a 5v5 towards goal
- The team with the ball will try to connect 10 passes
- Once 10 passes have been completed, team with the ball can then shoot on goal.
- Both grids can be used allowing players to widen the space and be able to switch the play.
- This will allow for gamelike play and situation.
- If the team with the ball scores they keep the ball and begin the drill again.
- If the defending team wins or blocks a shot on goal, they will begin the drill.
- Defending team must be quick to react if the attacking team completes their passes.
Coaching Points:
- When the team is going towards the goal, remind the team to find space.
- Do not force a play, instead try to connect passes to bring out the players.
- Defenders must shift into shape, and shift towards the ball.
- Communication on both teams.
Cool down:
- One lap slow jog around the field.
- Static stretches.
