Passing exercise from Hertha Berlin. This three phase drill focuses on basic passing movements with a midfielder and front three (phases one and two) and midfielder, wide players, no 10 and striker (phase three).
Works best if used before a possession based exercise such as 2 teams v 1 team.

Sequence: A-B-A-C-D-C-D; A-E-A-C-D-C-D; repeat
Play starts with red player near the halfway line (marked A) who plays to a wide player (marked B via pass 1). Wide play must check away from the mannequin/cone mimicing losing their marker. Check shoulder, move, call, receive.
Ball then is set back to player A (marked pass 2) whose movement is forward. Then third pass (marked 3) is into central attacker (marked C) who passes back to halfway to the waiting player (marked D) as a one-two-set around the cone, i.e. pass one side, receive back, pass the other side of the cone to initiate a new 'set'.
Player D then plays ball to opposite wide player and repeats.
Rotation is A becomes B, B becomes C, C becomes D (follows pass).
Coaching Points:
- Passes should be firm for one, or if needed two, touch(es) all the time.
- When receiving the ball always check you shoulder.
- Passing foot should be dependent on the direction of play (i.e. B with right, mirrored B with left).
- Pass to D should be on the side they WILL NOT pass to out wide, as they need to check back the other way.

Sequence: A-B-A-E-A-C-D-C-D; A-E-A-B-A-C-D-C-D;
Similar to last drill but this time when A receives the ball back from B, they switch out to E. FOr this to be possible their touch must allow them to pass wide (preferably if going from B side to E side through a left foot pass).
Then they move over to the other side to receive another set back before playing into C who plays a one-two-set with D again to restart.
Rotation is A becomes E, E becomes C, C becomes D (follows pass) i.e. last wide passer goes to middle.
Coaching Points:
- When switching play can we do it first time, if not maximum of two touches and look to use foot closest to where the ball came from i.e. from B use left foot, from E right foot otherwise player will have to open up body.

Sequence; A-B-A-C-A-D-A-E repeat.
This time player A starts in the number 10 position and plays a one two with the midfielder (player B); then must turn and play a one-two with player C (who moves away from the cone).
On receiving back, player A then switches to D for a one-two before playing a pass into the number 9 (player E) who starts the process again.
Rotation is E to A, A to D, D to B, B to C, C to E (anti-clockwise switching).
Coaching Points:
- As player A receives the ball back from player B, they must check their shoulder and be on the half turn ready to play wide as quick as possible.
Setup
