- Players follow their pass to the next cone.

- When the players have got the sequence introduce a second ball and finally a third ball

- Progression - Lower to one touch play.

- Finally swich directions and see if the players can handle the adaption.

Press (10 mins)

Set Up

Remove the 5 cones from the first drill just leaving the square. Add 4 discs about 5 yards back from the side of the square. The defenders start by the cones, the possession team is in the square.

The Drill

- On the whistle the first 4 defenders on the cones will run into the square to try and tackle the team keeping possession.

- If the team in possession make 10 passess it equals a point to them, if the defenders tackle then the defenders get the point.

- Once the tackle is made or 10 passess completed the defenders run out the square, and on the whistle then next group of defenders will run into the box.

- Swap the defending group into the box

Objective

- Keep the passing quality high and at a high tempo in a pressured situation.

8 plus 4 v 4 (15 mins)

Organisation

25 x 20 area split in to 3

4 teams of 4

1 defensive team in the middle

1 team on outside as bounce players.

4 x 3 Minute Blocks (1 Minute Recovery)

Rules

Team in possession must make a minimum of 3 passes before looking to transfer to the other side.

They can use end players for bounce pass but the end players can't switch it.

If they transfer through the middle area its worth 2 points. If they take safer option and transfer using wide bounce players its worth one point.

Keep track of score for each team.

2 defenders can go in at once, 2 defenders in middle are live.

Main Principle - Switching play

Counter Principle - Pressing and Regain of the ball

If we only have 14, go to 3 teams, 2 of 5 and one of 4, remove outside bounce players.

Possession v Pressure (15 mins)

Organisation

45 x 30

7 v 7 plus 2 Goalkeepers

The red team are looking to keep possession using both GK's - If they make a minimum of 8 passes & then switch play to the other side, they can score in either mini goal*. (This will encourage the defending side to lock in possession down that side) * Prior to this progression, they can score in any goal without the switch. Any goal they score subtracts from the blue team's total goals.

Blue team looking to pressure and regain possession to score in either goal (must get shot off within 6 seconds of regain).

2 x 6 Minute blocks (2 Minute Recovery)

Objective: Working on playing out from the back from GK against a pressing opponent - Back 4 being comfortable on the ball and DCM making angles to receive and move the ball forward.

Also works on the press when we are out of possession.

Competition - Who gets the most goals as the pressing team.

SSG (20 mins)

SSG progression from the previous slides. Can we find examples listed below from the Welsh game model. (Discuss after each break.) 2 x 10 mins

Team OOP are to press, force the opposition play backwards or sidewards IOT allow us to delay and get into our shape and be better prepared in transition. Work on trigger points and ensure we as a team on losing possession, nearest player presses.

Welsh game model is the following;

Defensive transition

React quickly

Press immeadiately on loss off the ball

Force play into supporting players (and or force play backwards, give them the out ball!)

OOP

Desire to regain the ball

Protect the middle, show away from the goal

Protect space between the units

Prevent split passes between players.

For the team in possession;

Aim to build up play from the back to find the spare player

Movement & rotation to create central overloads

Quick switches of play to create wide overloads

Attacking transition

Secure the first pass

Counter attacking on possession regain

Switching play to the opposite side
