Switching the Point of Attack (Attackers in Blue, Defenders in Yellow)
3v2+2T into a 3v2
10x12 yard boxes. Leave 15-20 yards between the boxes. Adjust the size of the boxes based on player ability.
3x5 min rounds (rotate attackers and defenders after each round).
Rules:
-Attackers execute a double switch in order to penetrate and pass the ball into a counter goal for a point (double switch = ball must make it's way back into the original box to go foward).
-Need at least three passes inside a box before using one of the two link players (CB/CM) to switch the attack to the weakside box.
-Possession starts as a 1v1 and gradually into a 3v2 overload. 2nd defendersenters box after 3rd pass. 3rd defender (on weakside) must stand at the "door" of the far box until that attacker takes his first touch. This forces the 2nd attacker join in support quickly.
-Defenders must really work in this underloaded exercise. Stand in the path of one attacker while pressuring the ball. Slide if necessary. Prevent switch of attack, win the ball and play it to the coach.
Attacking team points:
-First attacker must be composed (shield, mobility on the ball) if his 2nd attacker doesn't arrive quick enough.
-Active supportive movement. As possession becomes a 3v1 and then 3v2, always create a triangle of support (player on the ball always has two options).
-2nd and 3rd attacker must continually scan to see the positioning of their link players to allow for proper preparation touch before switch.
-Link players must play quickly with two precise touches and a punched or driven ball to switch point of attack quickly.
Defending team points:
-Win the ball and play it to the coach.
-Be conscious of the attackers' positioning in your blind spots.
-Anticipate heavy first touch or weak pass. Intercept and/or tackle quickly.
-Stand in the path of a pass while pressuring the ball.
Exercise restarts with coach serving ball to the empty box.

Crossing Repetition for Precision:
Alternate exercise to other side after each cross
Wingers and fullbacks:
Whip outswinging crosses into target on net, Use strong and weak foot (take 3 crosses, then go to other side).
Play a wall pass, quick penetrating touches and whip service. Use cones for short weave if more realism is needed.
Technical points
-Take a look at target early, set that image in your mind and trust it.
-Receive wall pass with strong penetrating touch.
-Turn planted foot inside before crossing to help with the whip.
-Over-stride just before crossing the ball based on speed the ball is rolling.
-Lock ankle, brush across and through the ball (near jaw to far eyebrow of the ball's "face")
Think about "shooting" the cross.
-Head-heighth trajectory, hit the target before goalkeeper can step out to make the catch
Goalkeeper: Try to step in front of net to catch the cross, but don't leave the line until cross is struck.
Avoid landing on a the cones after catch.
Technical points:
-Play the game, not the exercise. If GK starts to cheat toward the cross, tell crossers to drive a shot near post.
-Shoulders square to the cross. Far knee up to protect yourself.
-Secure the ball, otherwise parry outside.
-Two-footed landing whenever possible.

8v6 Buliding Out (30 mins)
8v6: Building out of the Defensive Third - Plan A
Attacking team in Blue, Defending team in Yellow
(move the ball, create and pass to the free/open man to penetrate, move forward as a team)
Exercise restarts 75% of the time with building-out team goalkick, 25 % restarts w/ defending team throw-in.
Attacking Team points: 1 point for penetrating out to the line with at least 3 attackers on that line & no teammates in the penalty box
-Positioning/Spacing: How far away can you be and still be an active support person? Center mids each -positioned on a different line and a different passing from each other.
-Create space: for youself or a teammate by moving away from the area you anticpate receiving it.
-Scanning: continually looking away from the ball and/or upfield before receiving & while the ball is traveling to you
-Penetrate/Provoke: receive far foot to quickly turn and take advantage of penetration
-Timing: Don't check for the ball too early, try to receive the ball outside the opposing line of pressure (" the window")
-No Pass? Get out: Don't receive the ball within 3 sec of your check? Get out of that space
-Player Rotation & sharing of space: leave a space and your nearest teammate fills it
-Possession: Don't lose the ball in the defensive half! Be aware of when you are making a forced, hasty pass.
-Can't go foward? Use the goalkeeper! He's the pivot in this space. Reset the build-up, play with confidence, deception and precision
Defending/Countering Team: 2 points for winning ball and creating chance on goal within 3 passes
-Get to goal: After winning possession during opponent's build-up. Whipped service toward at least two runners to goal or quick shot on target.
-Swarm or Trap? Attacking team unorganized and/or out of balance? Swarm man for man. Attacking team organized? Press into one of the opposing fullbacks in order to trap on the sideline or force a pass into the middle where we can win and penetrate.
