Organization:
- 4 teams, 4 starting points set up as shown above, facing each other diagonally.
- Each player has a ball.
Instructions:
- Player from each team drives towards the center of the grid and passes ball at other gate on other end.
- SEE PROGRESSIONS
Coaching Points/Questions:
- Can we dribble with our head up? Can we recognize space in front?
- If we recognize pressure in front: can we recognize open space behind or to the side?
- As we approach pressure, let ball roll forward and bring back with sole, giving our back to the open space.
- Use other foot to drag ball back the way our back is facing. Then face open space in front and dribble.
Progressions:
(1) Players drive towards the center and pass to opposite gate (1 point for each pass between gates). Teams going accross towards each other work together and add up points.
(2) Introduce Maradona spin - if players skip traffic at center of grid with a successful spin they get 4 points (4 points).
(3) Take away 2 balls and make it 1v1, with same point system as above.

Organization:
- Same set up as before, now teams diagonally from each other working together.
- 2v2, 1 ball.
Instructions:
- Ball starts from a gate as player in possession dribbles into the grid. Team with ball scores by dribbling through opponent's gate (2 goals/gates per team). As soon as a team scores, play restarts with 4 new players and ball is played from gate diagonal from where the point was scored.
- If Maradona spin is involved at some point in play, then dribble through opponent's gate is worth 5 points.
Coaching Points/Questions:
- Can we recognize open space as we dribble into the grid?
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization:
- Same field set up as before.
- 4v4, 1 ball.
Instructions:
- 2 teams (4v4) or 3 teams (4v4v4), depending on skill level and area.
- Teams score by dribbling through gate. They cannot score in consecutive gates.
Coaching Points/Questions:
- Can we recognize closest gate score?
