ABC's (10 mins)

THE SESSION: Tiger Tails: Objective: Collect as many tails as possible by stealing them from other players

  • Each player in Tiger Tails has a tail tucked into the back of their shorts, visible for others to see and attempt to steal. The objective is to collect as many tails as possible by nabbing them from other players.
  • Players move within the designated area, aiming to snatch tails by pulling them out of another player's shorts. Once a tail is stolen, it's added to the thief's own collection, making them a target for others to steal from.
  • If a tail drops to the ground, any player can seize it, but the first to touch it gains possession to prevent a tug-of-war. To protect their own tail, players must rely on speed, agility, and evasion tactics such as sprinting, quick turns, and using obstacles as shields.
  • Players cannot physically grip their own tail to prevent theft, adding to the challenge and excitement of the game.
  • Tiger Tails can be played within a set time limit, typically lasting 1-2 minutes per game. The player with the most tails at the end of the time limit emerges as the victor.

PROGRESSIONS:

  • Give each player a ball which they must keep under close control while trying to steal tails
  • When a tiger has their tail stolen, they must now dribble around the outside of the area, and the game is played until there is a winning tiger with all of the tails.

KEY POINTS/MESSAGES:

Fair Play: Emphasize the importance of playing honestly and respectfully. Encourage players to avoid rough behavior and instead focus on fair attempts to grab tails.

Spatial Awareness: Teach kids to be aware of their surroundings while moving. Encourage them to scan the area for opponents and obstacles to avoid collisions.

Agility and Movement: Stress the importance of quick movements, agility, and speed. Guide them on how to change direction swiftly and move dynamically within the designated area.

Evasion Tactics: Teach evasion strategies such as sudden changes in direction, using quick turns, and utilizing obstacles to shield their tails from opponents.

Resilience and Sportsmanship: Encourage players to keep trying even if their tails get stolen. Highlight the importance of good sportsmanship by congratulating opponents on successful steals.

THE SESSION: King of the Ring

  • The players begin by dribbling around inside the ring in any direction.
  • Keeping their own ball under close control, they must try to knock another fighter’s ball out of the ring. (NO SLIDE TACKLING)
  • To be successful, fighters must decide who to attack and use defensive skills to knock their ball out, while being aware that they might be attacked from a different angle.
  • Once a fighter’s ball has been knocked out, they are out of the fight and must not touch another fighter’s ball. Any fighter who has been knocked out should collect their ball and walk around the outside of the ring with it so you can clearly see who is in and who is out.
  • When down to the final 2 or 3 fighters, introduce a time limit to encourage them to win. If there is no winner before the time is up, everyone can rejoin and start again.
