Patience in numbers up situations. (30 mins)
Session Topic: Possession and Forward Play
Session Theme: Patience in numbers up situations.
Level: Moderate
Set Up:
Set up a 40 x 20 meter grid with 2 halves. Have 2 even teams in different bibs.
In this session we are working on the attacking principles only.
Organisation:
Play starts in one half with 4 players vs 2. The 4 players combine to retain possession for a fixed minimum number of passes before looking to transition the ball to the opposite half. On successfully transitioning the ball to the other half, one Red player drops back into their own half to lend support and one Blue player now becomes a second defender in the other half. One Red player remains and attempts to screen the forward pass.
Ensure that players are rotating failrly and all have a go at screening. This is also a rest period for each player.
Progressions:
Allow 2 players to support as defenders after the transition.
To make it harder:
Add touch restrictions for the attackers.
Increase the minumum number of passes in possesion.
All players have to touch the ball.
To make it easier:
Reduce the number of passes required.
Have just the single defender trying to win the ball back.
