Session Detail
The group is organised into small groups of 5-6 + a GK. Using a modified penalty area, the session starts with a 1 v 1 in the area; each 1 v 1 is played to one goal or to a 60 second time limit. Once a goal is scored, the losing player leaves the area and the coach then passes a new ball to the next player entering the area. Players are able to combine with the players outside the area.
Coaches can manage the queue of players in different ways:
a) there is an entry point to the area and the player leaving the game moves out to the furthest point.
b) the players are wearing different colour bibs and once the coach calls a colour, that player enters the area.
c) coaches can call players into the area through using their name.
If Gk's are not available, you can use small goals or a dribbling line as the target.
Coaching Points
- Creativity; on first touch, skill move when dribbling (BP)
- Realistic finishing; use of both feet (BP)
- Forcing opponent wide (BPO)
- Protecting the goal; target (BPO)
Progression(s)
- To add more physical loading, increase the time limit and/or players must score two goals
- Increase the play to 2 v 2; and then increase the size of the area

Session Detail
The area is arranged with two 5m wide zones running the full length of the area, and a half way line to separate the areas each player is able to use, once the ball has been moved into the oppsosite half, the players are not allowed to move back to defend, therefore, creating a 3 v 2 + 2. When the ball is in the attacking half, the players must score from a wide area. One defending player is able to press in the wide zone, while the attacking team can combine to release the neutral player into the central area; as long as there is one wide player present in both wide areas. Play can resume from a goal being scored or the target missed via the GK, and the wide neutral players making a back four.
Coaching Points:
- Different methods of wide distribution; cross, cut-back, drilled (BP)
- Attacking the ball; type of run, timing (BP)
- Blocking crosses 1 v 1 (BPO)
- Force player to the smallest space 1 v 1 (BPO)
Progression(s)
- Remove the half-way line and allow players to move back to defend, creating a more realistic situation.
- Add emphasis to wide areas by incentivising these goals to be worth more.
- Allow the 'full-backs' to move forward to support the wide player.

Session Detail
In this circuit each square is assigned a skill move, turn or ball manipulation with a number of times that move needs to be repeated. Once that square has been completed, the player then moves to the next square and completes that challenge. Players score one point per challenge completed and tally up how many points they have achieved over a three minute period.
Coaching Points
- Execution of technique
- Identifying space; to complete challenge
Progression(s)
- Coaches should not hesitate to progress the skills for each box.
- Players can find a pair who is their direct opponent and they race to see who can gain the most points in a time set.
- Progress to add elimination; in one area players are tasked to manipulate their ball while trying to kick other players balls out of the area. If a player has been eliminated then they must achieve X juggles to re-enter the area.
