Starts with technical ball work then begins to focus more on the technique of closing an attacker down.

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Setup:
Use the large square from previous drill and add 2 much smaller squares to 2 sides to be used as endzones.
Instruction:
2 teams will play 1v1 and try to get to the opposite endzone. The team with the most players in the endzones wins the match. Switch which team gets to start with the ball. Allow free play for a few moments then introduce (one at a time) the 4 steps to properly closing down an attacker.
1) Close Down- Reduce the amount of space between you and the attacker as fast as possible
2) Break Down- As you near the attacker start to take smaller steps and leave a little bit of space. You should not be able to touch them if you stick your arm out. Do NOT stab at the ball
3) Get Down- Bend your knees and take a good athletic stance. Helps with balance and agility
4) Show Down- Bend your run so that you are "showing" the attacker space to dribble into. This will make them more predictable.
* You can get the kids thinking by asking them where you would show a player to? Help them get the answers.
-Attackers weak foot
-Side line to use it as a second defender
-A supporting player to force a 2v1 advantage to the defenders
-Etc.
Coaching points:
-Freeze the activity only to show the 4 rules from above
-Correct the players as you see issues. At this age and level there will be a lot of immediate tackles. Put a huge emphasis on leaving some space (Not being able to touch the attacker at first).
-Force the attacker to make the first move
*Allow free flow to keep the activity fun.
