Partner Passing10 mins

Players are in pairs.

White player must try best to get away from partner.

Partner has ball at feet and is dribbling ball around trying to catch partner.

When coach shouts stop all players stop. Players with ball then must try pass ball using inside of foot between thier partners legs.

Passing Through Gates10 mins

Setup:

Place gates randomly (1 gate per 2 players) around your training area.

Players partner up across from each other passing through the gates.

1st Activity:

2 touch passing through the gates using the inside surface of the foot.

2nd Activity:

1 touch passing through the gates using the inside surface of the foot.

3rd Activity:

Pass outside of the gates and take first touch to the other end - pass across to teammate - repeat. (do not pass through gates - but on the outside of them). Use multiple surfaces (inside/outside).

4th Activity:

Have players see how many gates they can pass through. Moving throughout the grid passing through various gates.

Make each activity a competition to see who can get the post passes in a set-time (30 sec - 1 min, etc)

Coaching Points:

Activity 1: Plant foot next to the ball - pointing to your target. Open your hips. Heel Down, Toe Up when striking and receiving the ball. Keep your ankle locked.

Activity 2: Strike the ball in the middle (not below or above the mid-line) to ensure it stays on the ground. Follow through keeping your knee bent through the process. Have ready feet to receive

Activity 3: Open hips to take your first receiving touch to the other side of the gate.

Make eye contact with partner

Lock ankle, follow through

VARIATIONS: Switch partners after each activity.

Passing & Receiving (10 mins)15 mins

Unopposed Passing & Receiving

Players work in groups of three. P1 passes to middle player (P2) who controls ball, turns & passes to P3. P3 returns pass to P2 who turns and passes to P1. After 2 mins rotate positions. P2 should open body, receive ball on back foot, turn & pass with other foot.

Progression:

P1 & P3 side step cone to cone whilst waiting for ball.

Key Coaching Points:

1 - Correct weight of pass & accuracy, using inside of foot.

2 - Two touch passing (control/ pass)

3 - P2 adjusts body to receive ball with back foot & turn

4 - Communication (vocal & eye contact)

Receiving to Penetrate15 mins

Organization: 4/6 players per grid. Two lines as above.

Instructions: Players pass the ball straight through the middle of the grid to partner and then wait until they touch the ball. On the receivers first touch, they must try to take the ball through one of the gates infront.

Coaching Points:

- Move in line with the ball

- Decide which way to go

- Lock ankle on receiving the ball

- Angle of touch

- positive first touch

- weight of touch

Progressions:

- passer becomes defender and race to the opposite gate, whoever gets through their gate first wins.

Small-Sided Games Tournament 3v325 mins

Organization:

3v3 Small-sided tournament games: 4 teams of 3 players eachteam. 2 fields of 30x40 yards with 2 Pugg Goals on opposite endlines.

Instructions:

4 Teams of 3, play 3v3 tournament style format where each team will play one another. 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 for a loss. Each game should be approximately 6-8 minutes in duration (obviously play a 3 game tournament).

Coaching Points:

· Review of session's learning outcomes being translated into the game

· 3 lines of attack

· Creating diamond (gives angles of support)

· Making diamond as big as possible (Creating space)

· Identifying any numbers up situations
