Equipment:

-Bibs

-Cones

-Pop up goals

Warm up (10 Minutes)

-Mark out a square roughly 20x20 or 25x25.

-Give each player a ball to dribble around the square.

-As many touches as they like to dribble around.

Coaching points

-Keep looking up, know your surroundings.

-Keep the ball close, otherwise it's running with the ball.

-Change of pace/Direction

Compeitition/Fun

-When coach shouts a command for example 'First in a group of two' it will be the quickest players to get in a group of two. Can use other commands.

-Add in gates around the sqaure, whoever can dribble through the most gates in a minute the winner.

Progression/Regression

-A regression would be to make the area bigger.

-Progression would be to add in defenders without a ball to try and challenge the players dribbling.

1v1's (20 minutes)

Organisation

-Set out two mini goals each end of the same sqaure used for warm up.

-Split the group in half, one half in bibs and the other without.

-Then split each individual group again and have the equal amount either side of the goal.

Drill

-The players in the 'Defending group' will start with the ball and they will play the ball diagonally across to the players in the 'Attacking group'.

-The attacker will then receive the ball and then see if they can try and score.

-The defender will start off by only trying to win the ball and if they do win the ball then that go is dead and the next two go.

-Ensure that both groups get a go at defending and attacking.

Coaching points (Defensively)

-Close down the space quickly don't give the attacker time

-Body positioning, on your toes and side on. Can you use your body positioning to force the attacker a certain way?

-Deceleration.

-Be patient, don't dive in.

Compeitition

-Attacking group vs the defending group, a point for every time the defender wins the ball and a point for every time the attacker scores a goal. Ensure each groups get two goes each of both, whoever has the most points wins.

Progressions/Regressions

-Progression, that once the defender wins a ball they can then go and score also.

-Regression, attacker gets two seconds before the defender can close them down.

Attacking and defending transitions (15 Minutes)

Organisation

-This time take away square and use just one goal.

- Set up three gates roughly 8 yards apart and about 20 yards from the goal.

-If one goal too small use both pop ups together.

-Split the group into 2 groups of 2 and then one group of 3 and then one goalkeeper who will go in goal.

-One group will be in one coloured bib, another group in a different coloured bib and then the last group without bibs.

-Each group will need a ball (One per person if possible).

Drill

-The player from group one will take a shot at goal to start it off.

-The player who took a shot will then become a defender and go 1v1 with the player from group 2.

-The player from group 2 will then try to score with the player from group 1 trying to stop him.

-After the player from group 2 has had his shot it will then be a 2v1 situation the player from group 3 and group 1 will attack against the player from group 2.

-Ensure to rotate where each group starts.

-Give a CLEAR walk through demonstration to ensure there is no confusion.

Coaching points

-Body postioning when defending, again, on toes and force certain way.

-Patience again when defending.

-When striking the ball angle of approach, non kicking foot planted, head over the ball etc.

-Don't be afraid to shoot from anywhere as only 20 yards away, don't have to take them on, be game realistic.

Compeitition

-Whichever player scores the most.

-Each go if the keeper concedes less than the attackers score he gets a point vice versa.

Progressions/Regressions

-Progression, limit touches on group 1 so they have to shoot from further out.

-Regression, just have another 1v1 with group 2 and 3 if 2v1 becomes too difficult.

End of session

-Finish with end of session no conditioned game.

-Cool down stretches in a circle

-Session recap, ask lads questions.
