Technical Repetitions (15 mins)

Organization:

6 cones per area

4 players per area (up to 6)

1 ball per area (extras nearby)

Instructions:

PHASE 1:

1 player on the 1st line

2 Players on the second line (1 defender and 1 attacker)

1 player on the 3rd line

Player on 1st line plays into player on the 2nd line

Player on 2nd line opens up on pass and plays into player on 3rd line.

PHASE 2

Once player on 3rd line receives the ball they drive at the player on the first line and combine with the player on the 2nd line.

Rotation:

1st line player becomes 2nd line defender

2nd line defender becomes 2nd line attacker

2nd line attacker becomes 3rd line player

3rd line player becomes 1st line attacker

Instructional Points:

Defenders role (2nd line player) is to block the passing lane then close down the attacker on the pass but leave the line open for the attacker to break the line

Player on 1st line look sto defend (not win the ball) as soon as player on 3rd line gets the ball.

Coaching Points:

weight and accuracy of pass

body shape as receiving

3rd line players dribbling technique

commiting defender before passing

technique used in making the pass

Progressions:

Defender on 1st line can defend and it is a live 1v1 +1 once the player on the 3rd line touches the ball.

Possession / Transitional Activity (40 mins)

Organization:

2 possession zones in wide areas (15x15) Area size will vary based upon age/ability

Each area has 3 attackers and 4 defenders (each team has a rest player on side line). 3v4 in the area. (#'s will vary based upon age/ability/need)

1 attacker and 1 defender in final 3rd of the area

another attacking team are resting

1 big goal with GK

Instructions:

Phase 1 - (in the orange box) Possession (blue team out of possession) White Team must make 5 passes and then look to score into Pugg Goals - then they get the ball back. If the blue player wins the ball the activity moves onto phase 2.

Phase 2 If the Blue Teams wins the ball they are looking to break immediately out of the area (they cannot play the target player) White team trys to stop them from doing this but cannot track them to start.

Phase 3 - (Blue team in possession) - Blue team plays 2v1 to goal.

Phase 4 - (white team win the ball) (blue team loses the ball) if the 1 defender wins the ball they have to play into the opposite possession area and the activity continues, the blue players cannot defend the pass into the area.If the blue team score, the GK wins the ball or it goes out of bounds then the coach plays the ball into the right possession (opposite) and play continues.

Coaching Points:

position of defenders (to help in transition moment) facing the direction they want to attack directly.

Speed of reaction once you win the ball

Secondary learning outcome: can the attackers movements influence the defenders?

Distance/angle of touch once you win ball to break out

Movement of CF to try to effect the defender

decision making of ball carrier whether to pass or whether to shoot

Progressions/Regressions:

-change # of passes before you can score

-change size of the possession area

-allow a recovering defender from the white team

-allow a recovering defender from the white team from the opposite box

-add more players into the attacking third

Free Play (30 mins)

Organization:

8v8 plus keepers (3rd team rests)

Instructions:

1-4-3-1 vs 1-4-3-1

Coaching Points:

-as before looking to capitalize upon body shape, speed of decision making and ability to get forward quickly and effectively upon winning the ball. Immediate transition.

Progressions:

adjust formations to take advantage of different visual cues.
