Skill (20 mins)
Description: - 5 v 3 directional rondo. Attackers must move the ball from one end to another to get points. If defenders win the ball they need to dribble it outside to earn points.
Principles: - Subprinciples
- Create and exploit overloads: - Create and find free players (Football Assocaition of Wales, 2023)
- Breaking Lines: - Play through and around (Football Assocaition of Wales, 2023)
Blocks: - 90 secs x 3 (Stratton et al., 2004, pp. 102-103)
Progressions: - Decrease space to 15 by 15 yards (Stratton et al., 2004, pp. 85)
Regressions: - 6 v 2 with 2 players on the inside
Variations: - Players start to dribble too much, 3 touch limit
Coaching Points: -
Same as technical
- Priortise passes that break lines
- Understand when to play 1 touch (under pressure) and when to use 2 touches (Attract pressure)
- The ball possessor is free, the teammate needs to be positioned on the shoulder of the defender to break the line of press
- The ball possessor is under pressure, and the teammate needs to drop to provide support
- The central player needs to stay between defenders to occupy them and link play
Questions: -
- Which pass is more important? sideways or ones that break lines?
- Can you receive the ball? If yes, when should you release it?
- Ball possessor is free or under pressure? where can you move then?
- Which side is the press coming from? Who is free then?
COACHING POSITION :- Lead coach and Assistant Coach always diagonal to each other with footballs beside them. If the lead coach steps in to increase intensity and give individual feedback the assistant needs to take over for the brief period
