Juggling warm up - Intro (10 mins)

Juggling warmup  - Intro (5mins)

Organization:

  • 20x20 Grid 
  • Each player with a ball

Instructions:

  • Start juggling the ball with laces try to keep the ball up without the ball touching the floor start with 1 keepy-up and catch the ball then go for 2 keepy-up and catch proceed to do as many as you can to beat your personal best.

Coaching Points/Questions:

Players try to improve their touches (control of ball using body-eye coordination) by juggling with different surfaces of their feet (in this case, the laces).

Regressions/Progressions:

  • Alternate to using your  weak foot, knee(thighs), chest, shoulder..etc 
  • If player is struggling allow them to bounce the ball more times and keep trying to improve

Organization: 

  • 30x30 
  • 1 ball per player 
  • cones (orange, yellow, blue gates)
  • pug nets

Instructions:

  • Have each player dribble with a ball through the cones (gates). 
  • Every gate they dribble through they will earn points. 
  • Keep track of points or set an objective Ex: First to 40 points, 
  • Players have to dribble through a different color gate each time Ex: orange, blue, yellow, orange...etc

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Ball close enough to the body, but not caught up under their feet / where should the ball be when dribbling?
  • Head up, avoid collisions and find open space 
  • Dribble with good speed 
  • Accelerate away from pressure 
  • Recognition of space 
  • Who or what are we trying to avoid and what do we need to increase more of?

Regressions/Progressions:

  • Have less gates if it's too challenging for players.
  • Add a cone in front of each goal Ex: goal 1 yellow and goal 2 blue, have players also shoot in the goal that has the correct color you shouted out.
  • Challenge players to dribble only 1 specific color gates.

Dribbling - Conditioned Game 30mins

Organization:

  • 30x30 
  • 2 Teams Attackers vs Defenders
  • 1 soccer ball in play
  • 2 pug nets 

Instructions:

  • Depending on the number of players 3v3,2v1,4v4...etc, the goal is to create lanes for 1v1 challenge to dribble from.
  • If Defending team recovers the ball now they are the Attacking team. 
  • If you dribble past a defender the team gets 1 point 
  • First team to complete 10 successful dribbles/take ons wins

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Proceed to the match.
