6v3 Rondo (15 mins)

6v3 Rondo Discovery Game: 12 x 8 yds. or 18 x 12 yds. (20 min.)

- Attackers have 1 or 2 touches (can limit to 1 if 2 is too easy)

- Defenders are in for 90 seconds or 2 minutes

Progressions: 1) Defenders earn points by getting any touch on the ball to break up the play or a pass out of bounds by attacker.

2) Defenders earn points by winning the ball and connecting passes OR by dribbling out of the grid.

Objectives: 1) Recognize what space is most dangerous, make it as small as possible.

2) Techncially execute closing down (apply REAL pressure or proper movement to cover)

3) Win back possession.

Coaching Points:

- Read the game to perceive most dangerous space and therefore your line to defend

- Make that line/space as small as possible by rounding run and working hard to close down individually

- Have active feet to help block passing lanes

- Talk using "I go!" for first defender and to teammates in front of you: "Force left!"

- Make lines between defenders as small as possible to stay compact and cut passing lanes, to then force turnovers

- Recognize the proper time to go all out to force a turnover

Objectives: 1) Recognize what space is most dangerous when defending

2) Close down and apply REAL pressure

3) Recover possession

Coaching Points:
