Technical Drill- set Up 1

Key Factors

The purpose fo this drill is to provide the players with reptition of the Nomads Moves and to provide the players with a large number of touches of the ball, at speed. The focus will be on the correct execution of the technique.

Organisation

The set up is as can be seen in the animation (add additional lines if needed). The central area should be roughly twice the size of the two end areas.

The players will start on the right side of each line of cones to avoid collisions.

Players from both ends will work at the same time. Up to the first cone the players complete one of the three actions. Once they have reached the first cone they then cross the central area and complete a Nomads Skill, at the third cone the players pass the ball to the end for the next player to repeat.

The three actions to be completed are:

i) side to sides

ii) toe taps

iii) inside/outside using the same foot

Technical Drill- Set Up 2

Key Factors

This progression requires the players to combine quick movements with the ball with sharp turning and changes of direction.

Organisation

The set up is the same as the previous drill, but in this progression, the players must run with the ball quickly to the first cone and complete a Nomad turn. They then return to their startign point and complete another turn. They then explode out with the ball and cross the area, completing a Nomad Skill as they go.

Once they reach the third cone they pass the ball to the end player who repeats.

Possession Drill

Key Factors

As with any possession drill, the chaotic nature of the drill will force players into making very quick decisions and being required to execute techniques and skills quickly and effectively. This drill will espose the players to this and place large demands on the players both mentally and technically.

Organisation

Set up an area of a realistic size for the number and age of the players. Within the area place 5 gates using cones and split the players into two equal groups.

There is no limit on touches and if the ball goes out, a kick in re-starts the game.

The teams look to use the ball to create goal scoring opportunites using passing and dribbling.

To score a goal a player must dribble/RWB throuhg one of the gates, once they have scored in one gate, they cant go back through that gate until a goal has been scored in a different gate.

Skill Drill

Key Factors

The purpose of this drill is to ensure that players can experience success, but also ensure they are challaenged. Decision making and quality execution are key to this drill.

Encourage players to take on defenders.

Organisation

The set up of this drill sees the pitch split up into 2.

Players are split up into 2 equal teams, with goalkeepers and normal size goals (or mini goals and no goalkeepers)

One team will be the attacking team and 1 team the defending team. The defending team will have 2 defenders in the zone closest to ther goal and 1 defender in the zone furthers away. They are locked in these zones.

The drill starts with the attacking teams goalkeeper, who plays the ball out to one of the attackers. This creates a 3v1 in this area. The attacking team must then work the ball in the next zone to create a 2v2. They must then look to create a chance and a shot on goal.

They can use the goalkeeper to recycle the ball. Once the move has finished the defenders are replaced and the drill is repeated with new attackers.

Play for 3/4 minutes before swapping roles and ensure that 2/3 sets each are completed.

The session will finish with a game, either 4v4/5v5/6v6.

The main focus here is to encourage the use of the Nomads moves and to encourage players to dominate in 1v1 situations.

Organisation

Set up a pitch (either normal goals with GK's or mini goals without).

Allow the players to come up with nay conditions but guide them to conditions that encourage dirbbling.
