One of the important aspects of implementing Rondos within our training regiment is to ensure it is done with our playing style and tactical plans in mind within a limited amount of space to recognize where the space is to attack. This is an advanced stage to introduce the ability to make quicker decisions using the basic diamond and triangle shapes under pressure from 3 players

An area of 25x25 yds, with 12 players max divided into two equal teams. (3 players from the defending team would be resting. The players used in this 6vs3 are simulating the tactical scenario of playing through midfield against a team playing with three representing a GK-4-3-3.
In this example the HMDF #6, AMDF #8 & 10 and Wingers #7 & 11 are combining to keep possession of the ball.
The objective is to keep possession within a diamond shape requiring depth perception against three players who are pressuring and supporting each other as a midfield unit eliminating the space centrally.
The aim is to combine with teammates to play through the midfield to the center forward. This example could also be used to switch play if the opponents prevent forward play through the central area because they have become to compact.
Coaching Points:
Dispersal - Use as much of the space available to make the defender run. Create length and width within the square based on the ability to receive and pass the ball quickly.
Angle of Support - always create and maintain a diamond shape. Open body to see majority of the field (left and right) and receive the ball on your front foot to move. When to show between the lines of defenders and when to play behind them to receive the ball.
Distance - make sure you position yourself where the defender can not mark two attackers
Timing/Decision Making - when and when not to play the 3rd line/split pass, if not how to switch the play quickly
Passing - make safe side passes where only your teammate can receive the ball; pass to the foot away from the defender
Touch Direction - is the ability to take their first touch away from pressure or eliminate the opponent to link to their next action
Tempo - the pace of the ball means to make the ball travel fast enough not to be intercepted but controllable
Good Position - is where you can receive the ball at your feet but it can not be intercepted

An area of 20x20 yds, with 12 players max divided into two equal teams plus a GK. 2 players from the defending team would be resting. The players used in this 6vs3 are simulating the tactical scenario of playing through midfield against a team playing with three representing a GK-4-3-3 to finish on goal. This set up is the same as other 6vs3 Rondos except we have two opposition defenders (CB's) who are only involved once the play has come out of the rondo square.
Play starts with #6 and the aim is to make 3-5 passes inside the area before it is played wide and then the rondo becomes a 3vs2 to finish with our #9, #7 & #11 attacking the goal.
Coaching Points:
Dispersal - use as much space available to create space to attack
Angles of Support - never be positioned in line with another player horizontally or vertically
Tempo - requires quick movement of the ball and safe side passes to open space to attack
Shooting - aim for the far post across the face of the GK with accuracy before power
Rondo 6vs3 - Playing out of the back
An area of 25x25 yds, with 12 players max divided into two equal teams. (3 players from the defending team would be resting. The players used in this 6vs3 are simulating the tactical scenario of playing out of the back and how to combine with each other against a team who presses high with three forwards representing a GK-4-3-3. In this example the GK #1, CB's #4/5, LFB #3, RFB #2 and HMDF #6 are combining to keep possession of the ball.
The objective is to keep possession within a diamond shape outside/inside the square. This is much more difficult for players because depth perception is required against three players who are pressuring and supporting each other as a forward unit eliminating the space centrally.
In this example the #1, starts with the ball and plays a 2nd line pass to #3 who plays a 3rd line pass to #6 who plays a first time pass to #4 who has moved to support the play underneath. #4 plays a 1-2 pass with #6 who plays a pass out to #2 to recycle possession.
Teams can rotate into the center to defend as a unit, when they intercept the ball and repossess it by playing 3 passes with one another or Plays it to #1 representing a shot on goal or to the coach.
