Dribble to Penetrate
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Have half the kids line up along each end line. Everyone has a ball. On the coach’s signal the all kids try to dribble across the grid to the opposite side without crashing into another player who is coming from the opposite side. If players crash, they must do a skill designated by the coach (scissors, 10 foundations, etc.) before continuing. #2. Progress to having kids dribble from all four sides so that there is traffic in all directions.
•How do you know whether to go fast or slow? (Vision)
•What part of your foot will you use to dribble fast? (outside)
•Should the ball get closer to your foot as other’s get closer to you?
Coaching Points:
•Change of direction and Change of Speed
-Vision when open space
•Outside the foot touches to speed dribble
•As pressure gets closer, the ball gets closer to the foot

Set up two fields each about 15 x 20 and separate the kids into four groups (groups should be about 3 kids). Each group/team sets up at one end of the one field in a single file line (off the field to the side of the gate). Team A initiates the game by passing a ball in to team B and the first players from each line play making a 1v1 game to small gates (dribble through to score). Any time a goal is scored, the ball goes out of bounds, or the game lasts longer than 30 seconds the players on the field go off to the outside and new players begin a new game. The transition should be quick. After 10-12 games, make sure you switch so that both teams receive the ball to start. You can even rotate teams so that they play on both fields and get different competition.
•How can you make sure the defender doesn’t recover? (cut off)
•What should you do after you beat the defender? (accelerate & cut off)
•What do you need to do to beat the defender? (Change direction & speed)
Coaching Points:
•Change of direction & Change of speed
•Push ball past defender then cut off defender towards goal
•Accelerate while cutting off defender

Set up one field 25 x 30 with one gate on each end. Split the players into two teams and number the players on each team (ex. 1,2,3,4,5,6). The opposing team should have a player whose number matches a player on the other team. Each team lines themselves up along one touch line. The coach will play a ball into the field and call a number. The player from each team who has that number enters the field to play against their counterpart from the other team. Vary the game and call multiple numbers so that they play in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and even 4v4 situations. Designate which team is attacking which gate. You can even call out situations where there’s numbers up situations.
Coaching Points:
•Change of direction & Change of speed
•Push ball past defender then cut off defender towards goal
•Accelerate while cutting off defender

•What happens if you do your move to early or late?
•What should you do after you push the ball past the cones?
Coaching Points:
•Change of direction & Change of speed
•Push ball past defender then cut off defender towards goal
•Accelerate while cutting off defender (get back to center)
