Blues play 1-2-4-2 formation (coached)
Reds play 1-3-3-2 formation (managed) - manage strikers to stay high
Blues to score through combination play between diamond and strikers.
Reds to score within 10s of getting possession.
Problem 1
Reds go man for man - Tip of diamond (8) would have to drop deeper to lose the red CB and create an overload option in middle of midfield. Red CM will have to pick either blue CM. If red 10 drops to support, then option to play out to blue defender is there. Then looking for attacking shape for blues to provide width and depth when in possession of the ball.
Supporting runs from strikers is key - one running in behind whilst the other may drop short to receive ball to feet. Both to remain high to offer depth.
Wide blue players look to provide width to stretch Red midfield
Look to play short passes through midfield rather than long ball.
Lots of movement and rotation between the diamond to pull reds out of position.
Out of possession
CDM to screen defence
Man for man in middle
If Red CB comes out of defence then one of Blue strikers comes with him.

Problem 2
Reds play narrow (width of 18) and compact - Then looking for attacking shape for blues to provide width and depth when in possession of the ball.
Supporting runs from strikers is key - one running in behind whilst the other may drop short to receive ball to feet. Both to remain high to offer depth.
Wide blue players look to provide as miuch width as possible to stretch Red midfield
Look for the opportunity to switch play an exploit space in wider areas.
Lots of movement and rotation between the diamond to pull reds out of position.

Organisation/Conditions
Rectangle area around centre of the pitch.
4v4 with 4 target players on outside of area. Target players arenot allowed into square
Target players represent centre backs and strikers depending what way the midfield are attacking. Target players always play to blues.
Targets/Challenges
Blues must play in a midfield diamond and look to receive ball from feeder before attempting to get to other side.
Blues score if they get ball from one side of square to the other without losing possession. Are allowed to use feeders to create space and keep possession.
Reds score if they win possession of the ball and play to any feeder on the outside.
Progression - Blues must complete 3 player combination before playing into strikers.
Blues no longer allowed to use target men to keep possession.
Key Factors (on, around, away from the ball)
Wide players in the diamond system should provide width in attacking shape.
Top of the diamond needs to stay high to offer depth.
Patience in build up play. Do not force passes.
Communication in order to find passes and make sure diamond shape is kept.
Key Questions
Do the blues use player rotation well?
Do they use their CBs well to create space for themselves?
Can they create an overload and then play 1-2 around Reds?
Do they move the ball quickly, accurately (quality of pass and first touch)?
Can they drag the deepest lying Red away and play longer ball to target man?
