Organization:
Varies depending on age/ability level (usually 25x20)
Two mini goals on either endline
Line of goals to mark "offside" line, again depending on level, you can adjust how far this line from goal.
Instructions:
One defender, one attacker, one passer.
The attacker tries to make a run to get in behind the defender, while staying onside. The passer tries to link up and time his pass to keep the runner onside. If the attacker gets the ball played to him before crossing the line, he can either go turn and attack 1v1, or pass back to the passer and try a different run to get in behind. Once the ball is played across the line, the attacker must go to goal.
IF the defender gets the ball in the grid, he can attack the opposite goal.
The passer becomes the attacker, the attacker becomes the defender, the defender goes the back of the line.
(A) Focus on receiving ball in the air: Have the coach stand behind the goal and plays in the air, and let the players run onto/receive ball in the air while making the run forward.
Coaching Points:
Timing of runs and pass. Communication between the attacker and passer.
Various types of passes to spring the attacker to get in behind (through ball, ball to feet, chipped ball, etc)
Progressions:
R- if the passes aren't quality the coach can become the distributor because the main focus is getting the players to understand how to make and time the penetrating runs
