OBJECTIVES: DEVELOP ABILITY TO DEFEND IN 1V1 AND 2V2 SCENARIOS - SPECIFICALLY FOCUSING ON INDIVIDUAL DEFENSIVE POSITIONING
Key Points:
- APPROACH - close down at speed, slow down on approach - why?
- DEFENSIVE POSITION - on toes, bent knees with angled body shape (looking to force direction of play)
- DISTANCE - from the ball - 1 metre - why?
- PATIENCE - jockey opponent remain goal side - recognition of correct time to attempt to win ball
- HOW? am i able to use body to shield and keep possession - do i need to make a tackle?
RECOVERY - recognition and understanding to get goal side when defending
Organisation:
- set up cones as shown approx 20 metres in length apart and around 2 in width
- alternately place a ball on each cone to ensure players do both equally
- if ball is at cone players will collect and dribble to the middle, turn back and leave ball by cone (as shown by the grey arrow) vary dribbling task to involve ball manipulation techniques i.e boxes, inside outside etc.
- if there is no ball then player presses team mate, slowing down on approach to get in defensive position and jockey back (as shown by intermitant arrow).
- players then go to the next cone and repeat
- once players get to the end they turn round to the nearest side and perform dynamic warm up moves
