Functional tro Phase in which the following elements are explored- Target Play, Creating Numerical Advantages, Attacking Space, 1 v 1 battles, Service of the ball from wide or baseline positions, Finishing. The dynamic should always have the feel of "playing soccer" versus a sequential build up of players ansd spaces.

FUNCTIONAL TRAINING OF THE FORWARD BLOCK- The midfield block receives a ball from the server of which they play. Once each has had a touch, a pass is sent into one of the forwards. If the backs win the ball or the goalkeeper makes a save, they counter back to the server who then plays a ball back in for play.

PHASE PLAY- By adding a defender within the midfield block, pressure is not only put on that block of players, but now the forwards must read the tactical cues of the MF group which leads to an actual play. In the graphic above, the Target FWD notes space underneath and the subsequent ability to turn and take on the defender going to goal. Plays can lead to wide play and combinations as well. Defenders and goalkeeper counter to server.

PHASE PLAY II- Another defender is put in place now creating a more defined gap. Counter-attack goals are put in place for thre defending team to play to. Once the ball is released from the MF block, they may now join in the attack.

MATCH CONDITIONS- The team that has been trained maintains the 1-4-3-3 configuration that features a HMF, 2 CMF, Target FWD, and two wide FWD's. The oppositon is set in a 1-4-3-3 as well, but in flat configurations. This allows for more clear indications of gaps and seams for the white team to exploit. Have fun and play!

WARM UP- Players jog about whilst performing dynamic stretching movements. As this stage moves along, the players now pick up intensity by adding speed and change of direction. Periodically, the coach commands the players to stop and perform dynamic stretches either alone or with partners. This leads into a "possess to penetrate" activity where players look to find target players. If successful, that team mainatins possession and look to find another target on the opposite side of the field.
