Main Activity - Semi opposed (15 mins)

Organization: 6 players on either side with 3 players each side of the goal.

White players pass the ball back and forth, holding the ball for four seconds each time they receive it. Blue move as a defensive pairing to pressure and cover. After four or five passes Blue drop behind the blues goal and Whites play the ball to the other side and defend to do the same.

Coaching Points/Questions:

Who is the first Defender?

- Closest player to ball

What is the role of the first defender?

- Pressure the ball

Who is the second defender?

- The second closest player to ball

What is the role of the second defender?

- Cover the first defender

Why do you cover teammate?

- Covering player in a good position to stop penetration (split) but close enough to cover 1st defender if they get beaten 1v1.

Additional

- Pressure communication (I got ball, cover me)

- Cover communication (which way they want player player to be forced)

- Slide Tackle - last resort.

Regressions/Progressions:

- 2v1 (Less Defenders)

How to make it the 2v1 into a 1v1?

- Pressure and look to isolate the 1st attacker (give enough space to sideline and delay attack into smaller space before looking to tackle)

Conditioned game (20 mins)

Organization: 6 Players on each team playing 2v2.

Instructions: Players line up either side of the goal 3 on each side. One team dribbles at another team to go 2v2. Once they shoot and the game is over they defend there goal straight away whilst the team who is next to the goal dribble out to try and score. (Look to penetrate within the shaded area - no need for keeper yet)

The process then keeps going the other end. Once a team has finished there go they then go to the back of the line which they started.

If defenders steal the ball they can score in the other end and then defend again (winner stays on format) Players always go back to the goal they started.

- Open body shape to see 1st and 2nd attacker

- Transition from 2nd to 1st defender and 1st defender to 2nd defender quickly.

- What happends if attackers overlap?

Regressions/Progressions:
