Functional Clearing the ball - Defender
Warm-up with headers in groups of three
A. Player sprints forward then cross over run with hips open. Clears the ball that partner is throwing.
B. Same thing but from other side
Progression
i. toss ball to clearer, to clear with inside of the foot
ii. " but clear with head.
iii. cross ball for player to clear
iv. Make it two defenders who always start at 18 and then drop as ball is about to be crossed. Work on 6 clearances and switch roles.
v. Progress to having four players (back four) start in front of 18 and have players play balls in and those defenders have to clear it and push up after every clearance. 6 total (Switch the 4)
vi. Can do it by adding pressure
*Add horse shoe game with defenders.

Shooting w/ Pressure Progression:
1) Set-up: Have cones roughly 10 yards apart as shown in diagram. Line farthest to goal starts with the ball. Once player is done shooting, they then receive a ball from the start of line and it's a 1v1 back to goal. The Chaser and Shooter switch roles on the next time around. Count how many goals you score. Top player exempt from Fitness.
2) Optional: Player behind plays ball through leg of shooter and calls out 'laces far post', 'laces near post', 'inside near post', 'inside far post'

Positional Play 8 v 5/6 + 3v2 to Big Goal= 18-20 Players
Set-up: 30 x 40 + 15 Yards
4 blocks of 2.5 minutes each
Objective: Numbered team can get tagged after first touch. 7 & 11 act as positional players until a player dribbles across yellow line then it's a 4v3 live game. (2 attackers can join the attack) Including OB's. Must score within 6 seconds after cross initial yellow line.
Scoring:
#'d team: 1 pt: 8 passes, or score on big goal.
Defending Team: 1 pt: 3 tags, 5 passes, dribble outside of grid.
Progression/Blocks:
Block 1: Understand the rules, conditions & Shape.
- Offensive Shape of 6,10 & 7/11 (never on the same line, always giving angles to each other)
Block 2: Movement of 6,10, 2/3 based off 4/5 area of field.
- Understanding of movement from #6,10 & 3 based off 4/5. (If the 5 stays wide, what should the 6, 10, and/or 2/3 do?)
- 3rd/4th man runs (what is the hardest pass to defend?)
Block 3: Progression added for 7/11 to come inside to initiate movements of surrounding players to get in behind.
- Movement off the ball of attacking players. Movement of dribbler once they have space and time. Where should they go and why? What should happen once the 7/11 comes inside turns and goes towards goal?
Block 4: Same as Block 3.
- Movement off the ball of attacking players. Movement of dribbler once they have space and time. Where should they go and why?
Coaching Points:
Overload the strong side to create numerical superiorty.
Offensive Shape.
3rd/4th man runs.
Movement off the ball and movement of dribbler.
Specific: Movement of 4/5 triggers movement of 6/10 & 2/3.
If the #5/4 has space to dribble into space on the inside that triggers movement of 6 to go wide and push the 2/3 higher and a little more central. If the 4/5 dribbles into space from a wider area then #6 gives them an angle inside.
Line-up: Carly Sides - Nora, Honor, Jadyn, Grace, Jenny, Avery, Caroline, Amelia, Katie, Megan
Progression:
- 11 or 7 can come inside grid and go on the half turn foward. If so, AM on that side needs to overlap and go forward as the #11/7 drive inside into space.
- Can add 9 to mix, and now 4 or 5 need to initiate play with a forward dribble to activate movement off the ball.
Coaching Points:
11 & 7 need to bend their run outward to stretch opposition. while 10 or 6 drive inside.
Attack space and commit players.
Decision making of when to make runs and when show for support.
