Session Objective: Extra Session focussed on Attacking and Finishing

Screen 1 (10 mins)

Set Up: 2 lines of cones 10 metres apart

Organisation: Players line up for Warm Up Drill

They jog out and back as a group doing the following:

- open the gate

- close the gate

- knees up

- heels up at the back

- lunges (slow)

- sideways skip (both sides)

- 1,2,3 Jump to Head the ball

- cross overs (sideways with front leg over back and back over front)

Finish with 

2 x 75% sprint with a hard stop at the end and a jog back

2 x 100% sprint - one with hard stop and the final one with a run through.


Stretch anything that needs stretching for a minute

Screen 2 (15 mins)

Set Up: Multiple 5v2 Rondos 

15 m x 15 m grids. 5v2 in each grid (if extra players make up a 5v2) and size to suite skills 

Organisation: Players in the centre work to win the ball. They keep their different colour bib in hand at all times and work for a minute. They dont swap out until the minute is done. 

Everyone is a defender twice.

 

Coaching Points: 

Defenders

Intensity, Hips not square-on. Body shape to isolate players. Win the ball on poor pass or touch

Work as a pair.

No passes between

Attackers

Scanning for safe passes, movement, directional touches, weight of pass, pass on safe side.

Screen 3 (15 mins)

Set Up: 30m x 30m Grid with 3 Manakins or Poles in the centre as shown

Organisation: 3 central players start on the centre poles at stations 3, 4 and 5

Player 1 passes to 2 to start to action. Players at 3 and 5 go high beyond the poles but stay wide for the moment.

Player 4 drops short to get a pass from 2 and then plays through the lines to Player 5 who makes an outside to inside run to receive and play to Player 6. 

Player 6 bounce to Player 7 and the move repeats in the opposite direction.

The 3 central players must reset to beside the poles before the move can start, thus the bounce pass (or several to hold the play up until the players are in position.

Coaching Points:

These are our starting positions to finish using the Outside to Inside movement of wide players.

Be patient but keep the ball moving.

Firm passes to the front foot

Body position for the player who drops to be able to play forward quickly.

Timing of the runs off the poles and holding and timing the next movement.

Progressions:

Inside to Outside movements

Bounce the player at 4 and then back to the Player at 1 to play a longer diagonal pass.

Screen 4 (15 mins)

Set Up: Here pink is the attacking team.

3 manakins on the edge of the box to simulate a back 3. A 15 x 15 m grid just outside the centre circle with a 4 attackers v1 defender. Wide players at stations 2,3,4,5 to position fullbacks and wingers for the attacking team. Defenders in a line of 3 just outside the grid 

Organisation: Play starts in the 4v1 grid. After a set number of passes the attackers can play out to either of the players at 2,3,4,5, 6 and create a strike on goal. The defender can follow to disrupt the attack. When the blue team wins the ball they can score in the mini goals asap.

Coaching Points: Attackers in the grid should be patient and create the space to play out at the right time.

Players at 2 and 3 have the option to play vertically or diagonally.

Players at 5 and 6 look for different types of crosses (early, late, cut backs). PLayer at 6 is looking to finish in a calm manner with 2 touches max

Blue players look at the best retreating runs to prevent the attack. Blues win the ball high and score quickly to demonstrate making the field big in transition.

Screen 5 (20 mins)

Set Up: 8 v 8 on a half sized pitch

Organisation: Normal rules apply.  Except no corners or throws. If you score you get possession back from your keeper.
