5v3 Endzone Game (20 mins)

Endzone Game: 3v3+2. to two endzones or 5v3 to one endzone and two counter goals.

Grid: 25X12 + 2 endzone 8 x12.

Progression:

1) Score by passing the ball in Endzone and teammate running onto it. Ball must cross the line before player does for goal to count.

2) Same as 2 but now ball has to be played first time in endzone.

Coaching Points: Movement off the ball in order to be successful. Forces players to play with head up.

Guided Questions:

Can you make clever, appropriately-timed runs in behind the defence? Ensure the runs allow the player to stay onside, or the pass is timed well enough so that team mates are not caught offside by a late pass. Can you make clever, penetrative passes to free the player who has made the forward run? Encourage players never to turn down a chance to play a penetrative pass that is a viable option. Use lots of disguise to hide your intentions. Use various areas of your foot to add to the disguise (inside, outside, toe-poke, etc.)

IIA. Forward runs into final third (20 mins)

Forwards - Movement off the ball runs

Set-up: have two mannequins that act as defenders set up 35 yards from goal

Progression:

1. Player D plays ball across to Player B who now drives towards goal. Player A checks towards B and then makes a diagonal run in behind Mannequin where Player C is. If B delays the pass then A keeps rounding her run while B drives inside and plays the ball through different seam.

2. Player B dribbles at mannequin in front of them. Player A (Opposite Forward) checks to then peels off and makes bending run in behind mannequin to get ball from dribbler.

2b. Player B dribbling has option to play to Player A's feet who checks to at first and go for wall pass around mannequin he's dribbling at or if B doesn't play it then A can make same bending run as #2 for a through ball.

3. Freedom to experiment with any of the above.

Rotation: B>A>D>C>B

Coaching Points:

Timing of runs

Counter movements of forwards and dynamic runs.

Stay onside.

3 Zone Counter Attack 'Flying Changes' Game (20 mins)

3 Zone Counter Attack 'Flying Changes' Game (Positive Transition)

Set-up: 30x60 area divided into 3 zones. 2 end zones are 30x20 yards and central zone is 30x20 yards. Each team has 4 inside players and a goalkeeper defending a full size goal.

-One team starts with the ball (Blue) and aim is to quickly pass the ball to a player in the end zone and score (Through Ball). When the attack is finished, one of the defending team's outside players (black in diagram) dribbles a ball onto the pitch and starts a new attack in the opposite direction (the black defender moves to the back of line on either side). Her team must move quickly from defense to attack in a 4v3+1 situation (the blue player who jsut shot the ball tracks back as the +1).

-Practice should be continuous and uninterrupted at a high tempo. The players rest when they are outside.

Rules:

1. Only 1 player from each team is allowed in an end zone at any time.

2. Free time and unlimited touches for all players / Limit the time for finishing the attacks to 10 seconds and limit the players to 2-3 touches in the end zones.

3. Other players can join attack but must be one time finish. (both attackers would have to track back on counter)

Coaching Points: Play the ball into spaces so that we attack quickly. Take advantage of the space and speed of movement against the defenders.

*Diagonal Ball to Straight run, Straight ball to diagonal run. Play in different seams. Disguise intentions.

Guided Questions:

Forward Runs & Penetrative Passes (20 mins)

Forward Runs & Penetrative Passes:

Set-up: 4v4 or 5v5 including gk's. 40x30 yard grid.

One playing area divided in half by an offside line. Two big goals or one big goal vs. two small goals. Balls in each goal.

Attacking team is trying to score by making forward runs in behind the defence and matching these runs with penetrative passes. Defending team is locked into half as shown. If GK saves it or shot is missed, black team drops to receive possession and blues enter opponents half.

Guided Questions:

Can you make clever, appropriately-timed runs in behind the defence? Ensure the runs allow the player to stay onside, or the pass is timed well enough so that team mates are not caught offside by a late pass. Small Sided Games with 3 zones (20 mins)

7v7/9v9 Penetration Game:

PURPOSE OF SESSION:

For attackers to play penetrative passes that match the forward run of a team mate.

INITIAL SET-UP: One playing area, divided into thirds. The middle third will be larger. Two goals – one at each end – each defended by a goalkeeper.

INSTRUCTIONS: Two teams of outfield players compete in the central third. To score, a player must play a penetrative pass into the final third for a team mate to run on to, who can score. Players from the opposition team cannot enter the third to defend. Use the final third lines as offside lines.

PROGRESSIONS: 1. Both teams now attack one goal only. Place a defender in each area. Once a penetrative pass is played, the attacker must deal with a defender before scoring. 2. A second attacker can support his team mate, but he can also be tracked by a second defender.

Rules:

Defending team must defend in offensive two thirds. Attacking team must get in behind with through ball.

Coaching Points:

Can the penetrative passes be of an appropriate weight to match the run made by the attacker?

Can the passer use disguise on his passes to gain an advantage over the opponent?

Can players use surfaces other than their instep – outside of the foot, toe, etc.?

Do you need to beat the defender before scoring? Can you take a shot on earlier to eliminate the defender? Can you use the defender as a ‘reference point’ when both passing and shooting (i.e.
