1v1 practise - 15 mins
Organisation
Defender takes two touches and passes attacking player, who tries to beat defender and dribble through gates on end line. Swap roles.
Progression
Move onto 2v2 practice with goals in between two groups and mid line taken away.
Coaching Points
- Pressure on the ball
- Bodyshape to force attacker away from goal (knees bent, nearly side on, body between ball and goal)
- Delay attacker unless clearly able to take the ball

2v2 Practise
Organisation
On coaches' call, two players run around area (as shown), coach passes the ball into one group to create a 2v2 situation.
Coaching points
- First defender presses the ball, bodyshape to force away from goal (consolidation of previous 1v1 points)
- Second defender offers cover, taking up a position to react if first defender beaten and covering second attacker.

3v2
Organisation
Attackers are lined up in three lines. Coach calls 1,2 or 3 and that player brings forward the ball in a 3 player attack. Defenders attempt to clear the ball or score in one of the small goals. Rotate players.
Progression
Add a retreating defender from line 2 after second pass.

BALL MASTERY
Toe taps / toe taps in a square/ sole taps /sole taps forwards and backwards / pull push
1) box the ball (progression box x5 turn 90 degrees, keep going until all the way round)
2) toe taps (progression -toe taps forwards and backwards)
3) pull push (progression - pull then push with outside)
Competition
- different skill at each station moving up the line. 10 repetitions at each one.
First Touch (in pairs - facing each other)
1) two touch passes
2) receive with one foot and pass with the other - COMPETITION
3) take first touch past partner (turn around and play back)
Move to three cones
1) touch across body and in through other gate - COMPETITION
3) roll right foot over ball
4) flick the ball diagonally forward with right foot
5) accelerate away.
