Using half-field, set up a back five (as shown above), with an outlet forward; against an attacking four. IE, 6v4.
i) Play starts with coach playing attacking midfielder; ATT v DEF.
ii) IF DEF or GK wins the ball, they are looking to hit target forward ASAP. For wide areas - low, driven pass into space for forward to run onto. For central area - long high clearance into forward to control.
iii) Once ball is cleared, DEF have 3-sec to STEP UP into midfield 1/3 (past cones shown above) for point to count. Also GK must SET UP out of P. Box to sweep behind the back four.
Adv,
iv) ADD 2nd ATT mid and an ATT def marking outlet forward. IE, now playing 6v6.

Warm Up (15 mins)
Set players into groups of 4, with 2-balls on cones 0yds - 10yds - 30yds - 40yds apart as shown above.
i) Player B lays off a ball to right side of start cone. Player A strikes the ball right footed, first time for a high long clearance to Player D (IE, lofted clearance)
ii) Player B then lays off a ball to left side of start cone. Player A runs around start cone and strikes the ball left footed first time for a low clearance to Player C (IE driven pass to feet).
iii) Players B & A swap positions. Players C & D REPEAT the alternate strike pattern (RF high and long, LF low and firm)
iv) After one complete round, use RF for low driven pass and LF for high, long clearance.
Coaching Points
1) Address the Ball: Long High Clearances; body side on (surfboard) and slide foot/instep under the ball. Low Driven Passes; body straight on (facing) and drive laces or instep through the middle of the ball.
2) Follow Through: Allow leg to follow through the strike to gain maximum length and power
3) Adjustments: Through repetition, be able to adjust approach, strike, contact surface, follow through, etc until comfortable with power and accuracy.
