Dribbling Possession and transition (15 mins)

Setup,

Create a rectangle or 30x20 (Can use the whole gym if inside). Place one pug net in the middle of the space (Create a gate if no pug net is available). Make 4 small gates in each corner of the space. Ensure the gates are two different colors on the long side of the rectangle.

Depending on numbers have 9 players with a ball and 3 without ot 10 and 5 etc...

Activity:

Players starting with the ball must dribble around the space trying to score by dribbling through one of the corner gates. once successful, they must dribble through a gate of a different colour. Competition to count how many gates they can dribble though.

The players without the ball initially will try to steala ball, if they successfully steal a ball and score in the pug net in the middle, the player they stole from also becomes a defender. Id the attacker loses the ball, try to win it back before defender can score in pug. If no pug is available, make the defender have to try and dribble through a gate in the center. Continue until there is one player remaining with the ball.

Coaching Points:

Attacking: keep the ball close with head up so the players are aware of defenders and safety areas (space). If the ball is lost, recover quickly and fight to win it back.

Defending: Transition quickly from defense to offensive and stay focused once the ball is won, and find the target.

2v1 dribble and support (15 mins)

Setup: 4 pug nets, a rectangle 30x20. 4 quadrants 10x10 with a middle area. Supply of balls on the side with the coach. Players are arranged as shown with 2 defenders in each of their defensive boxes and one attacker in their opponent's half.

Activity:

Designate an attacking team and a defending team initially. Defending team players must remain in their zone while they don't have possession.

Coach plays the ball in to one of the attacking team's defenders. The defending team player on that side will try to win the ball in a 1v2 environment. If successful, they can immediately score in the opponents pug. Attacking team target player will drop into the middle space to receive from their teammates. Once the target player receives the ball in the middle, one of their defenders can join the rush to create a 2v1 in one of the opponents quadrants.

Play restarts with a new ball in from the coach to the other team who then become the attacking team.

Coaching Points:

Player on the ball attack the defender to force a decision.

Player off the ball movement in space. Good body shape to receive the ball

Focus on penetrating runs for player off the ball to get in behind defender.

SSG (20 mins)

SSG allow free play with limited stoppage

Regular 5v5 or 6v6 game with 2 scoring conditions

1. Attacking- In order to score, your entire team (except goalie if playing with a goalie) must be in the opponents half.

2. Defenders-If the opponent scores and you don't have all defenders in your own half, the goal is worth 2.

This will encourage movement off the ball offensively and defensively.
