U17 session really focus on quick ball movement and keeping possession. From watching them play everything is long and the off the ball movement is poor. This session should get them thinking about moving the ball quickly and short to draw defenders in and then look for the penetrating pass.

Passing pattern playing into our HM and AM. Look for good technique, ball on the ground, 1 touch if we can, smart off the ball movement.
Progression (red lines): have 2 1-2s on either side before getting to the bottom or top of the grid.
Progression 2: allow free passing play looking to incorporate both midfielders. When Tiqui Taka is said they play composed and accurate. Once they start going say 1 touch and at that they up the tempo and play 1 touch without losing technique or accuracy. Off the ball work rate and movement will be key to keeping control.

Diamond passing pattern. Ball starts with two players at left cone. Bottom player shows behind the cone and open to receive and then pass to right player who has moved behind the cone and opened up to play to the top player who has found space in front of the cone. Top player then plays to the left player in front of the cone and we start again. Movement mimics two outside mids and then playing to a target striker who starts in an "offside" position and gets onside before the pass is played.
Progression:
Move second player at right cone to middle of the pitch. He now shows for a 1-2 with the right side player. This mimicing a central mid moving into a supporting position.

3 v 3 + 4 with 4 goals game.
Two teams playing 3 v 3 with using the outside players to keep possession. It is a directional game. Set up mimics the teams having 2 backs, 3 mids and a target striker. Rotate the outside players with the inside players but try and keep them in the positions they normally play when they are on the outside.

4 v 4 to finish off practice. Let the kids play but try and get them to think about their best team shape and switching of positions while they are playing.
