Screen 1 (20 mins)

Organisation

- 2 teams split into 3 sections in half a pitch the width of 18 yard box but funnelled in both end zones. Each team have a GK & 2 outfield in defending zone, 3 in shaded midfield zone, (approx 30x25) & 1 in attacking zone to begin. They also have 2 neutral players on outsides working for team in possession of the ball.

- To begin ball will be passed into neutral player from GK. The neutral player will then play in centrally to one of the 3 central players, (determined by end of last phase or by coach). The midfield must get at least 1 pass before deciding whether to go & attack quickly into the attacking zone or retain the ball with their midfield players, players in defensive zone or neutral players.

- In possession 1 player can step into the next offensive zone, (def to mf, mf to attack) either with the ball or to receive/support, while being aware of balance behind ball.

Focus

- On Receiving ball, initial decision to attack quickly or build patiently, (player led definition of quick attack or patient play)

- If attacking quickly how? individual, forward pass, movement ahead of the ball, runs from deep, finish.

- If retaining how? Use of overload, width & depth, support & movement between opposition lines, pass type.

Progress

- Allow opposition to drop a player back in to either mf or def zone to track runner.

- Allow neutral players in side attacking zone to possibly create overload offensively.

3x3 minute games with 1 minute rest. Each rest period prompt different unit to discuss issues & areas to focus.

Screen 2 (20 mins)

Organisation

- Session now evolves into a more obvious Small Sided Game. One neutral player becomes a third defender for whites with other becoming an extra midfielder for yellows creating them a midfield overload.

- Ball will now start with GK, (unless going out on the side for a throw in) looking to play out through though their back 2/3, (at least one pass) & into midfield.

- Like before, In possession 1 player can step into the next offensive zone, (def to mf, mf to attack) either with the ball or to receive/support, while being aware of balance behind ball.

Focus

- Checking & reaffirming coaching focus from previous part of session, (decision making & execution of whether to attack quickly or retain more patiently).

- Use of overload; where is the space, how can we exploit?

- width & depth, support & movement between opposition lines, pass type.

4x4 min games, (will check for appropiate intensity & alter if needed) with each rest period prompting different unit to discuss issues & areas to focus.
