1st touch (15 mins)

Session Organization:

Setup as shown, adjust size to suit age/skill of players. Cones and balls as required.

Explanation:

Player A plays 1-2 pass to Player B, Player A then plays pass to Player C and moves to position B.

Player B turns around cone to receive.

Player C plays a 1-2 pass to Player B, then Player C plays pass to Player D. Player B moves to Position C and Player C moves to Position D. (follow pass).

Player D then dribbles ball back to Position A to repeat the sequence.

Change direction of passing sequence.

Progression:

Player A passes to Player C, Player C passes to Player B.

Player B plays a 1-2 to with Player D, Plays square pass for Player D to run onto.

Player D passes to next player at  A.

All players follow their pass.

Repeat sequence.

Change direction of passing sequence.

Evaluation:

Body shape when receiving pass.

Can I take my 1st touch in the direction of my next action?

Can I get my Head up after taking my 1st touch?

Weight of pass is it correct?

Can I Pass to my team mates correct foot?

Can I check off to receive pass?

Striking the Ball (15 mins)

Session Organization:

As shown pop up goals or GK and big goal. Poles, bibs and balls. 6-8 players.

Explanation:

Player 1 starts and plays a 1-2 pass with player 2.

Player then passes to Player 3, Player 4 times forward run to coincide with Player 3 receiving the pass from 1.

Player 3 plays a square ball for Player 4 to take a touch and shoot on goal.

Repeat sequence.

Focus on timing of Player 4 run.

Players rotate to next position i.e. 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 & 4-1.

Progression:

As above except 2&3 play a 1-2 pass and Player 4 times run to receive pass from Player 2.

Passing sequence 1-2, 1-3, 3-2, 2-4.

Evaluation:

Communication is key.

Head up after 1st touch,

spot target,

hit target,

weight of pass,

movement off the ball,

movement to receive,

Timing of Run/Pass.

1 v 1 (15 mins)

Session Organization:

20m x 20m grid with 2 x pop up goals and 2 teams. Balls, bibs and cones.

Explanation:

Coach to serve ball into grid, first player from each group battles for possession and attempts to score in their goal. Cycle ends if goal scored or ball goes out of grid.

Progression:

2v2, 3v3

Evaluation:

Speed of movement.

Correct technique when RWB

Correct technique when defending.

Communication 2v2.

RWB (15 mins)

Session Organization:

Setup as shown, grid size to suit players. Balls, cones, poles and pop up goals. Set up multiple sets as required.

Explanation:

RWB around cones and drive towards pole, finish with a shot/pass on goal. Collect ball and return to end of line. Repeat

Encourage use of chop, change of direction at cones.

Use step overs to change direction at cones.

After 3-5 sequences turn into a race and encourage the recording of results, most completed attempts after 90secs wins. Losing team does Push ups, sit-ups etc.

Designate which foot or skill to be used.

Progression:

Use inside of feet only

Use outside of feet only

Left foot only

Right foot only

Evaluation:

Close control when RWB around cones/changing direction.

Bigger touches when driving into space/towards goal.

Head when running.
