GU8 Passing and Receiving
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organisation:
-15-17 Players
-See diagram for equipment and set-up
-Split group in to 2 groups
- One team has 2 players at opposite ends of the area. Each player has a ball. The players with a ball each have to dribble from 1 end to the other and then turn back and repeat.
- The other team starts as 2 pairs with a player from each pair on either side of the area. 1 ball per pair. Each pair starts opposite their partner on the side of the area.
- The first player in each pair has a ball at their feet. They must take 1 touch across the area towards their partner who in turn receives the ball by taking a ‘big’ touch back across the area and performs a turn before playing the ball to their partner.
- Aim is for everybody to avoid contact whilst performing their roles.
Progressions:
- Instead of the pairs going from side to side with the ball they now pass to their partner across the area.
- Use extra players (e.g. from the team of 5) as link players for the ‘passing team’. Also allow the passing team to pass to the other pair.
Coaching Points:
- Lots of touches – close control
- Play with head up
- Sharp turns
- Decision making
