Team task
- Today is all about our ability to safely build up play from the back and get a player on the ball in controlled possession in the attacking 3rd
Player task
#1 (GK)
- Can you pass to a team mate so that they can receive facing forward
- Can you support play from behind creating a diamond with the CB's and HCM
- Can you look beyond the 1st pass to play through/over the press
#3/4 (CB)
- Look to play through opposition lines centrally. If not, play wide.
- Play in front of the receiver.
- If the player in possession can't play forward, drop to give space.
- Move forward if ball ha gone past 1st line of press.
- Travel forward if there is space in front.
- Split wide if there is no pressure on the ball, stay narrow if there is.
- If the opponent is deeper and floating, can you pass to draw him in and quickly switch back?
#2/5 (FB)
- Can you look to receive high and beyond marker? If not, come short and get it to feet.
- Opposite side can stay wide if no pressure. Narrow off if there is.
- High and wide if no pressure, drop and cover if there is pressure
- If CB passes inside and CM can play forward break forward past opposition WF
- If you can't play forward, pass quickly so we don't get trapped.
#6/8
- Can you look to receive facing forwards. If not, play backwards quickly.
- Be in a position
Coaches cues
#1 (GK)
- if you pass it to someone facing you, can you make sure they can pass back to you or another team mate if under pressure
- if you receive from one side, can you look to quickly switch play
#3/4 (CB)
- Pass on angle, not straight so receiver can move or play forward
- If the opponent is pressing and has cut off one side of the pitch, can you feint to fix him and then drive forward past him?
#2/5 (FB)
- Come short to receive if CB under pressure
- Move as ball is travelling to CM. If he can’t play forward support underneath
- If pressed out wide, look to go inside to CM rather than back
