Footwork:
Aim:
To have the GK comfortable with the ball at either foot
Instructions
GK & C to be passing the ball to each other, on command 'Left' or 'Right' the GK is to move to that side and then pass the ball back to the Coach
Progression:
The coach moves right back and the GK has to try and add height to the ball when making the angled pass out
Coaching points:
* Passes are not to be overweighted
* Passes to be targeted
* GK is on his toes when waiting to receive the ball
* GK is set back in the goal & is giving himself enough room to move forward and around the cones
* GK is watchiing the ball to his feet
Move & set (20 mins)
Set
Aim:
To get the GK's into a habit of moving around the goal and setting early for a shot what is either at them or very near to them
Instructions:
The drill will start with the GK & the C passing to each other, on command the GK will move around either the L or R post and return to be in front of the ball for the near shot
service is to be either at or close to the GK as we want them to try and stay on their feet as long as possible to stop a shot
Coaching points:
* Does the GK make a dive> Does he have to?
* GK to try and always get his body behind the ball when making the save
* GK to secure the ball 1st time - this is the most important part of this drill
