Instructions:
3 Zones
2 Teams keeping Possession on the outside zones
1 Team defending.
Blues must complete 3-5 passes to get the ball out of pressure and into the far zone without Yellow blocking off passes.
Team that lose the ball becomes the defender.
Coaching Points:
Angle of support
Recognize when to pass the ball forward
Weight of pass
Progressions:
Add second defender after 5 passes.

To encourage positional rotation, allow the players to change areas. The immediate defender must stay with their man i.e. 1 always plays against A, 4 always plays against D.
Communication is key.
Timing is vitally important.
As A clears the space for C, D sees the run & makes the pass then switches with B.
C's run should be late and fast to try to lose 3 and receive on the move if possible.

Combination play from goalkeeper/defence
Challenge - Can we keep the ball in our half without conceeding possession or feeling 'pressured'?
Run through some passing patterns:
Wide CBs receive the ball: Options include FB, CDM or CM - or 'keeper to recycle.
CDM receives the ball: Option 1: on the half turn Option 2: back to goal
Key Points
CBs to receive on half turn, front foot as to not feel under pressure. CDM needs to support play AT ALL TIMES, Goalkeeper should move in relation to the CDM (laterally).
If the CDM receives and has their back to goal, can our CBs be an option? Can our CBs and CDM create an overload.
WHAT IFS:
CDM is marked. Pull player out and CM drop in.
Start with unopposed situations to allow some success, with defenders rotating with spares. Then introduce the spare defenders as passive defenders, closing down options and allowing us to explore in-game situations. Then end on full-press situation.
Coaching points:
- Weight of pass, type of pass
- Angles, creation of space
- EVERY PLAYER MUST BE PREPARED TO RECEIVE A PASS
- Check shoulder, what is the environment telling me?
- Avoid playing with 'back to their goal'.

How to Play
Players are roughly 5 yards apart passing back & forth (2-touch or 1-touch).
Three technical defending sequences to work on detailed below:
1. When player stops the ball, partner must run up, touch the ball, and run backwards in a defending position.
2. When player lets the ball roll through their legs he must begin to shield the ball from his partner, partner must run to the ball to get touch-tight and just force the attacker back.
3. When player begins to attack his partner, partner must jockey and "delay" attacker from getting around him.
Coaching Points:
Reaction to defending
Choice of defending style (run backwards, pressure to force backwards, jockey)
Body shape, stance and balance when defending
