Organization:
- Split into 3 zones using Big orange cones
- Littel goals in at the angles/corners of the 18 yard box
- 4 balls each
- 1v1 in the wide channels/2v2 in the cnetral channels
- Players must be put into defensive positions
- The 2 wide channels go at the same time with middle group players resting first.
1. Attacking players (Blue) pass to defender (red) and red defenders give the ball back to attacker
and then go out to defend.
- Attacker scores by playing the ball in the main goal (who simulates a striker) or the player takes defender on and crosses. If defender wins the ball they play the ball down to the other player.
Coaching Points:
- 1v1 in wide areas - Show the attacker outside always. You don't want any internal passes into the striker. Body shape position to block pass off into CF/Striker
- When ball is played back - What do we do? You need to step up and press the ball/ Squeeze
- GK communication "Step-up"
- Dont just run beside the attacker - You need them to engage the attacker
- As soon as their space between ball and defender you need to stick body/bum in their way and win the ball
Coaching Points: Central Channel

Defending Session - Focusing is on defneding within the 1-4-3-3
1. Players are split up into two groups
- Active warm-up
- P1 from each line sprints up to the 1st cone as quick as they can and then holds their position; they then push off diagonally to next cone. When player infront reaches the 2nd cone the next player in each line goes - Make sure players are holding for 1-2 seconds before sprinting to the next cone
Coaching Points:
- Players rush the cone quick then slow down (Approach Fast/Arrive Slow)
- Side on position
2. Players press the cone - then jockey back 2 steps/ a couple of yards and then sprints to next cone and repeats etc..
Coaching Points:
- Balls of your feet to shfit quickly
- Lead with your left foot and left hand and when you pivot always get the player to lead with right hand and right foot.
3. "Spook" - now players are pressing the cone quickly - shfiting back 2 steps tehn spook by threatening off front foot and then sprinting to the next cone
4. At 3rd Cone - Imagine the ball hs been played over the top in behind the back line; up and out and prerss the cone - shift back a couple of yards - 'Spook' - drop hip and turn sprinting back to the the start.
5. Working in Pairs
- 1st players would press the cone with 2nd player just dropping off into covering position, P2 would then sprint to second cone and P1 would then drop in and lside to cover.
Coaching Points:
- Communication - needs to come from from deeper player/covering player
- "Press", "Show Outside", "Drop In"
