Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): U10 Blue Lightning 1v1 Dribbling and Moves

Tag/Juggling Warm up

Organization:

• 10-15 minutes. Mix up warm up. Tag on cold days. Juggling whenever. Alternate weeks. Have fun, be creative.

1v1 Activities

Organization:

• 30 minutes. 6 total rounds. Each round consists of 2 minutes attacking and 2 minutes defending.
• Split a field in half and move goals to the side of the field
• Players should have pinnies on and should be split into two teams of 5
• Split the teams evenly and have two lines on each side (3 player max for lines)
• Each player on one team has a ball

Instructions:

• 1 Player from the defending team (red) has a ball and they must pass to their opponent and enter the field. They must try to win the ball and score
• 1 Player from the attacking team (blue) receives the ball and tries to score
• Play stops if a player scores or if the ball goes out of bounds
• Next 2 players need to go ASAP so there is minimal waiting time
• After 1-2 minutes, players must switch sides
• Coach can manage teams so the competition is even

Coaching Points/Questions:

• Dribble to score instead of just kicking the ball (attacking players)
• Try to take the ball away and score (defending players)

Regressions/Progressions:

• Put weaker players against each other
• Stronger players could have added challenges (nutmegs=5 push ups, defender goals are worth 2, etc.)

Scrimmage

Organization:

• 5v5
• 3 x 8 minute games + water breaks
• Game rules - throws, fouls, goal and corner kicks

Coaching Points/Questions:

• Dribble to beat players, don't worry about passing or shooting
• Talk about positions, they'll forget. Be patient
