Initial Game (20 mins)
Over the Gap
20x45 yards (5 yard gap in middle)
-Players in possession (red) work to complete 5 passes before sending it across the gap to the opposite side (=1pt)
-if this happens, blues remain defenders and 3 go into the opposite side
-3 blue defenders work to regain possession - if defender is able to win ball, they must turn and play opposite side (=1pt)
-if this happens, red becomes the defenders
-2 reds then go across to defend
-if there is a neutral, they always go to help the team on offense
Progression: if needed, 1 blue from the gap can go in to help once their teammate wins possession back 2) reduce number of passes needed before going across
Coaching points: body shape to protect the ball, calm and composed, angles of support, head up scanning/anticipating, what does a "safe" pass look like?
