What? Converting Goal Scoring Opportunities when delivered from wide areas

Who? 9,10,8, 7, 11

When? crossing or passing from wide attacking areas

Where? Attacking 3rd

Why? Timing of runs into penalty area

Session Objective: Today I aim to improve my teams ability to convert goal scoring opportunities from Crosses or passes delivered from wide areas.

Passing Practise (15 mins)

Organisation:

Area: 50mtrs wide x 40mtrs in area of fields as shown

14 x players

14 x Balls

Cones

Large Goals

Poles

Explanation:

2 x groups of players

Play starts with the #10 40mtrs out from goal

#9, #7 & #11 positioned as shown outside the 18yard box with defender marking #7 / #11

1 x player next to goals to retreve ball #3

1 x player #6 waiting behind #10

#10 dribbles towards #7 & #11 who peal off defender to the outside

Defender is passive.

#9 make run to support #10

#10 passes to #9 who play wall pass behind defender to #7 & #11 who crosses into penalty area

#9 makes run into penalty area to recieve cross and shoots at goal

Rotation:

#10 goes to Defender

Defender goes to #7 & #11

#7, #11 Goes to #9

#9 Goes to #3

#3 Goes to #6

#6 Goes to #10

Players swap sides after 4 shoots each

Player perform Dynamic stretches

Progression:

#10 passes to #7 / #11 who play back to #10 who then passes to #9.

Positional Game (15 mins)

Organisation:

Grid 30 mtrs Wide with 2 x 10mtr Channels either side x 40mtrs Long

1/2 Way line marked across the grid.

12 x Field Players

2 x GK's

2 x large Goals

Explanation:

2 x Teams 4 x Players #6,#8,#10,#9 (Yellow and Blue inside Grid)

2 x Yellow and Blue's players positioned in outside channel Grid #7,#11

2 x GK's in goals

Play starts with Either GK.

Players attempt to score a goal from crossing from either wide zones into central area's

If you score play starts with your GK

If you do not score play continues with opposition team

All attacking players allowed into attacking side of field (While in BP)

2 x defenders + GK only allowed in defensive side of field (while in BPO)

Defenders not allowed in wide zones.

Players can change positions at any time

Team Task:

To convert goal scoring opportunities delivered from crosses in wide areas

Player Tasks:

Be in a position where you can recieve the ball

Can you recieve the ball between defenders in space and face goals

Time your run forward into the penalty area to ensure you have the best opportunity to shoot and score.

Combine with your team mates to maintain possession

Limit your touches where possible to increase ball speed

Follow in on every shoot for potenial rebound.

Be in a position to recieve the ball

Look to make forward attacking runs beyond defenders

Pass / cross the ball to a team mate who can shoot to score

Pass to team mate under the least defensive pressure.

Support team mate from behind

Coach’s Cues:

If: You are unable to play the ball forward pass to a team mate who can

When: in possession make the ground as big as possible to create space

When: you get the opportunity to shoot aim for the corners of the goals.

When: you or your team mate shoots follow the shot in case of rebound.

When you recieve the ball increase running speed toward the end line.

When you get near the end line pass or cross the ball to a team mate who can shoot and score.

If the ball is on the other side make a run to be in a positioned to score a goal.

If you are unable to pass to #7 or #11 pass to a team mate inside the central grid.

Support team mates from behind if they are unable to pass the ball forward.

Are to stop Blue Team from scoring and can score themselves by passing the ball into either small goal within 2 mtrs.
