Setup:
4v1 rondo in an 8x8 grid
Outside players cannot enter inside, inside players cannot go outside
Instructions:
1. 4 possess ball around grid, as 1 defender works together to win ball or goes out of play
2. If defender wins ball or ball goes out, the resting defender plays a ball into the attackers and defends, as the previous defender goes out. Repeat
3. Play for 1:30, rotate defenders
Coaching Points:
- 1st defender must close down as ball is traveling
- Make predictable
- Avoid chasing ball around grid
- High energy

Setup:
3 grids approx. 8x8, 12 players, 3 pinnies, 3 balls (1 per grid)
Instructions:
-Players pass and move in grid
-1 defender has 30 sec to win as many balls as possible by defending in each grid
-After 30 sec, a new defender starts
Progression-
Each defender starts in center but now, they each go into a grid and can help another defender to make it 3v2
Rotate defenders after set period of time
Coaching Points:
-High intensity from defender
-Make play predictable
-Close down quickly
-Win ball on bad touch or head down from attacker

Setup:12 players divided in 3 teams of 4; 2 grids 20x10 with 8 yd. gap between them
Instructions:-Blues play 4v2 in grid and try to play ball through middle to Black-If 2 yellow defenders win ball, they play to yellow in middle who plays to Black as 2 blues defend in grid and 2 stay in river. 4 Yellows take Blues grid-Yellows in middle can intercept when teams try to play through middle
Coaching Points:-yellows pressure/cover in grid; yellows in middle provide balance/compactness-yellows in grid make play predictable-communication from all defenders

6v6; 1 team going to large goal with GK and other is going to 2 small goals
Instructions:
-Formation of blue is 1-3-2; Yellow is 3-1-2
-Coach blues on defending principles from session.
Coaching Points:
-Pressure on ball, delay, cover, balance, compactness
-If no pressure on ball, defenders body shape must be in a position to start dropping
-If pressure is on ball, defender should hold positioning

Setup:
8-12 players organized in a diamond, 5-7 yds. away from each other; 1 ball
Instructions:
Player #1 passes to #2 as #4 closes down as a passive defender. #2 then passes to #3 as #1 closes down. Cycle repeats. Pass counter clockwise, then clockwise. Players who pass, move clockwise, players who close down end up where they closed down.
Coaching Points:
-close down as ball is traveling
-fast approach, slow arrival
-bend run
-communicate "ball" as closing down
