Set Up:
Red Players - Playing Out
Blue Players - Trying to Win Ball Back
Yellow Players - Target Players
Game:
- Reds play from GK into CBs and then into a player in the box before playing the target player.
- Blues try to win the ball and score - When blues get the ball they can leave the box.
- Target players cannot come into box, nor can CBs
Progressions:
- Once reds have played into target player - Both target players become active and can counter with the blues to score and can now leave the box (Transition - Game Realism)
- 1 Target player continues as is and the other becomes a screen for the 1st target player (Adds extra level of realism - No need to play through Midfield 3 now)
- Scenario: Reds are 1-0 up with 3 mins to play (Encourage high press from blues)
What Ifs:
- CM can't play forward? Play back or what you can see? Turn?
- Can't get on the ball in a diagonal pocket? Same as above point
Environment Changes:
- Centre backs have to pass between each other if they do not find a pass in 5 seconds (Encourages rotation and moving the ball all the time)
- A blue player has to man mark the CDM all the time and not let them get on the ball (Encourage roation and moving away - Or a bounce pass and rotation)
- Blues have to try and win the first ball in from CBs (Encourages tight marking, screening and urgency from blues)
CPs
- How quickly are players in position?
- How quickly does GK play?
- Does GK move to support the ball?
- Firm and accurate passes?
- What is the body shape of centre backs like?
- Have CBs scanned before recieving the ball?
- CDM: Can you move quickly into the diagonal pocket to recieve to play forward?
- CM nearside: Are you beyond the play as per philosophy?
- CM farside: Are you giving the midfield balance and width?
- Cannot find a pass for CBs? Play between each other for patience and rotation
- Rotaition/Exploiting spaces to find space to recieve
- Can I recieve to face forward? If not, what can I do?
- Target players antipicating play and moving into open passing lines
Session 1
Set Up:
Red Players - Playing Out
Blue Players - Trying to Win Ball Back
Yellow Players - Target Players
Game:
- Reds play from GK into target players for a goal
- Blues try to win the ball and score
- Target players can only play from Bi-Line into the width of centre circle - They cannot come into the pitch to receive the ball.
Progressions:
- Once reds have played into target player - The target player on the ball becomes active and can counter with the blues to score 5v5 (Transition - Game Realism)
- Scenario: Reds are 1-0 up with 3 mins to play (Encourage high press from blues)
What Ifs:
- One of the Target Players becomes another striker to man-mark CBs the other target player goes central as a striker and stays within central areas of pitch. (How does this change CBs decisions, CDMs decisions and FBs decisions?)
Environment Changes:
- Blue striker has to close down CB within 5 seconds (Encourage quicker support play for CB and the CB needs to scan pitch quicker) - Maybe cut off GK before pressing to ecourage opening on back foot.
- Midfielder marking holding mid can stay 5 yrds away but can only press on first touch (Allow CDM to open and play forward often - Repetition)
- Blues have to win the ball in 10 seconds (Encourage high press)
